SK7 probs

I have a Thermalright SK7 with a quiet 60mm fan and overall it's a pretty good heat sink. However, I'm having the problem of dust getting between the fins and thus preventing air from flowing through. Now, my CPU temp (XP1800) is up from 45ish to 70 during full load, until I clean the dust off. This is getting annoying actually because I have to do this every few weeks. My hypothesis is that my fan doenst move air fast enough.

Can anyone recommend a good heatsink that does not have this problem? I'd like to use a 80mm panaflo with this... thanks !!

i'd recommend intstalling filters for your intake fans as it would prevent *some* dust from entering the system...

i dont think its the fan not moving enough air. i have the ys tech variable speed on max constantly. keeps everything decently cool, but, just like you said, dust in the fins... all we are is dust in the fins... sorry, 'bout that. mine doesnt need cleaning every couple of weeks though. more like every 3 months or so i would say. i dont have any filters (yet) and my rig sits on the carpet with fans sucking in... so, i'm basically asking for it.

i dont think its your 60mm. any other fan would have the same result.

You also want to watch the positioning of the heatsink along its clip. Obviously it has a step in the base for clearance over the solid-plastic end of the CPU socket... but it must be slid as far away from the solid-plastic end as practical before clipping the clip down, so it doesn't ride up on it. Been there, done that. The very high temps make me wonder if that's happening with yours.

I would reccomend intake filters as well. I am also surprised no one else mentioned that you might want to try throwing on an 80mm fan just for the hell of it. I dont think that is your problem, but it would cool better at lower noise levels. That 80mm Panaflo you mentioned would work great.

Sadly, I already have intake filters. I just removed a blanket of dust from the top of the SK7 =X

Now it's at 61C / full load. My other comp w/ same config is about 42C @ idle. It *might* be the heatsink placement but I have like 6 computers here and it's getting down to a science :(

Are the other computers running 60mm fans as well? Do you know what the CFM of the fan is? Also, what are your case temps, are you sure they havent gone up? Your CPU should not be nearly that high with that HS and a good fan.
