Well I replaced a Thermoengine with a Thermalright (both with Deltas), on a 1.4GHz Tbird@1.584GHz. I noticed a 3 degree drop at load temps (46 deg C with the SK-6, 49 deg C with the Thermoengine), on an Asus A7V133

For some reason I cannot get my SK6 to perform up to everyone elses sk6 performance. I even tried with a 50cfm fan(also tried a 7k delta) & it still didnt perform that well

i'm running 1gig athlon @ 1.33 so it a substancial overclock....but seem rather poor cooling with sk6 delta...hovering at 49 C idle and 56-58 load...this is bs....cpu and heatsink is secure...nothing more i can do....seems like my old wbk38 heatsink is bigger and fatter so it's able to absorbe as much heat as this smaller all copper heatsink..any thought?

I am using the Gigabyte GA-7DXR motherboard with the sensor that touches the cpu(for more accurate temp readings) and an athlon 1ghz@1.4ghz at default voltage. I had been using the fop 38 with a delta 38cfm fan and it idled at around 48c and with a load as high as 57c. I now am using the sk6 with only the thermaltake 31cfm fan and now it idles at 43c and doesn't go higher than 47c under load. I consider this a huge difference given the fact that i don't have to listen to the delta screaming anymore. I am very impressed overall with it's performance.

Again, what are your temperature readings? Ambient? Case?

I mean those are absolutely AWESOME temps if that computer is sitting in room temps of 45C. You'd be hard pressed to get any improvement if that were the case. Or speaking of cases, if your case temps are 45C, those are also AWESOME.

Rant aside, that is a wide idle / load spread, so something's not right. What kind of thermal compound are you using? ASII? Some SK-6 don't have as flat a base as they should. How as the finish on the bottom before you installed it? Have you checked what the imprint looks like after you install the heatsink? Can you read the lettering?

case temp is 33 C...motherboard is 26C and cpu is 48 C idle...Yeah..you did remind me..i have to look at the flat surface...it doesn't seem really flat when i first glance at it...just forgot to double check...oh yeah... the thermaltake 31cfm running @ 29DBA...Is this really TRUE? i've never seen such good performance at such low noise level...I spot this at plycon....anyone has experience with this?

This doesn't make sense. Your room temp is 35C but your case temp is 30C?? If your room temp is 35, your cpu temps aren't that bad, but something is not right if your case and mobo temps are lower than your room temp.

Yes this heatsink is a bit tricky to clip on because the clip can move around so much. Lucky164 i have the thermaltake 31cfm fan and it works very well and is really quiet. I don't know if it is right for you though if your temps are that high already.

I have a 1.4ghz athlon running on the abit kt7a with an sk6 and delta 38cfm, and I get 45C idle... It's all in the case. If the delta just keeps recirculating hot air, like mine, I was getting idles of 55C. Just keep in mind, these temps are not accurate. And just remember, if the idle temp says 500C and it runs solid in every case possible, who gives a sh*t? I have seen people with idles of mid 50's and have lockups. Mine went to mid 60's and didn't lockup. Don't sweat it.
