SK6 or GC68?

I am thinking of something to replace my high pitched Volcano 6cu+ and I have decided between these two. The fan I wanna use is the YS-Tech 48.5cfm, 36db fan. I have heard that you can put 80mm fans on SK6's if you turn them. Is that right? Would I see much of a cooling difference between the two or should I save my money and get the GC68?

Im in the same boat... Personally i think the SK-6 should cool better because its copper instead of alumninum like the GC68.... Wouldnt the 48cfm fan be almost as loud as the one ya got now though?

Yes you can put 80mm fans on the SK-6 if you turn them 45 degrees. I am currently using a SK6 with Panaflo L1A (80mm) on my XP 1800+ at 1610.

The fan I am looking at is 3db quieter than the one I have now. Also it is only like 3300rpm instead of 7200rpm so it wont be high pitched and whiny.

Jeez you guys... run a search. Theres been so much about this subject.

The sk-6 wants a high flow fan. If you put an 80mm on it you won't get the performance out of it that it is capable of. Either get the sk-6 with a loud high flow fan or get something else that works better with a lower output fan. I've tried every combination of fan size and funnel on my sk-6 and I'm back to running a noisy 60mm.

I replaced my 6Cu+ with a GC-68 and am very happy. Temps down significantly and quieter to me.

Price was very right for the GC-68 also.

GC-68. The SK-6 *usually* doesnt do all that well with an 80mm fan for several reasons. One, it needs a lot of airflow, and that airflow is better when its concentrated. So a 30cfm 60mm will usually perform better than a 30cfm 80mm fan. Also, with an 80mm fan, at least 25% of the air being flowed isnt even between the fins. Every so often there will be fluke and someone will see better resuts with a 80mm fan, but chances are its a much higher cfm fan than the 60mm they were using. If not, well then, they are lucky.

Since the GC-68 was designed with a 80mm fan in mind, you dont have to worry about lost airflow or anything. Its a lesser peforming heatsink than the SK-6, but when you cripple a SK-6 with an 80mm fan, they're fairly close. With that in mind I would purchase the GC-68.

I just connected my delta 38 that i have on my sk6 to a baybus and adjusted the fan speed down to 5000 rpms. that made it a hundred times quieter and i still have the option to scream it when the necessity arises. at the lower rpms it ia running about 2-3c warmer at 42c idle. easily accepatable temps.
