Sk6 + 80mm fan ok? which fan?

I have an sk6 + 30cfm delta fan and it is just not doing the job well. I'm idling around 58C which is way too hot for me. Sometimes it even reaches 60C.
I have a tbird 1.2@1.45ghz, vcore of 1.98v. Antec case fans and epox 8k7a motherboard.

So i'm interested in getting an 80mm fan....most likely the ystech 48cfm fan. Will it lower my temps or am I wasting my time?
Any advice would be appreciated.

russr, what is your system or MB temp? That seems high as anything giving your using the SK6. Ming has yet to reach above 42c under full load! XP1700@1630Mhz

What are you using for thermal paste?

I'm using as3!
It is a tbird not an xp, tbird 1.2@1.45ghz
System temps are around 30C
ambient is a couple of degrees lower.

Csaddict,

How hard was it to get the SK6 clips up and over the corners of the 80mm fan?

It seems like it would be almost impossible to me, but I'd like to give it a try.

I slipped those clips over an enermax adjustable 80mm without problem. When I decided to have a grill on it, it took a little more fennagleing but it still went.

agreed. It is quite easy. I slipped the fan in under one clip, positioned it on the heatsink and then popped the other clip on.

I went from a 5000rpm 60mm fan to a 2700rpm 80mm fan and my temps went up about 2 degrees. The fan I used was only 29cfm so you should see some pretty good results with a 43cfm fan. It may have been designed physically for a 60mm but an 80mm fits and blows air onto it so whats the difference. The heatsink just needs airflow to work.

I am also using an SK6,with excellent results. I have a Tbird 1000@1126mhz, with a Sunon 24 cfm 60mm on top of the sk6. i run at 38=39 degrees idle, and max out at 42-43 full load. you should check your fan placement/thermal grease, something is probably wrong (i'm using ASII).
