hey guys wondering if you could help me out with ideas on whats wrong and how to fix my settup
i have a shuttle ak31v3.1 mobo 300watt enhance ps, 1.0 duron 256 pc2100 kingston ram, and sk6 with 80mm 34cfm 30db enermax fan on top of the sk6 with 40cfm being pushed in and out front to back with case fans and one side case fan pushing probably something like 20 cfm
i'm running idle at around 60-62 durin the day with case temp of 35 (no ac in my dorm) accoring to both mbm5 and bios, both agree al the time
with a full load goes to 67-68 (ouch!)
i dont understand exactly why
when i had my retail hs/f unit from amd and the pink gunk i was running idle temps of around 43 with loads pushing maybe 49 tops with comparable weather.....
during teh night my cpu will idle at the lowest 58 with the sk6 , used to be 38 when the case temp drops to about 30 degrees with the night breeze going through my room
i've reset the hs and clip and redone my artic silver 2 at least 10 times alreadygoing with thin layers to not so thing layers of asii cleaning thouroughly with rubbing alky each time and these are my best temps.. all running at 1.0 ghz stock voltage fsb and mult of course
u did unlock my cpu wheni changed the hs/f but didnt change the settigns yet but one curious side effect was the bio would not recognize the cpu properly anymore.. stange i redid the bridge connections about 4 times and it would either ring up as an 850 duron or a 1248 duron and right now i have it set manually but i doubt this is the reson for high temps ( i think?)
the most likely culprit apprears to be the clip from teh sk6...
wheni remove the hs/f after i apply a thin layer, i can see that the artic silver doesnt come off one the hs unit completely, MOST of the retangle from teh core is there but about 1/3rd of the core leaves some kind of marks i nteh metal (probably from heat) but no artic silver even though i can see the outline of the core... this leade me to believe that my clip isnt applying even pressure from teh heatsink onto the core...
so i tried using teh clip from teh retail heatsink on the sk6...
temps stayed teh same!
went back to sk6's clip and now i'm back in the 60's
what do you guys think? i currently ahve my side panel off, but its not helping much... voltage is set to be 1.75 (normal) speeds are normal... even though i can overclock to 1.064 with 133 fsb increasing al temps by about 2-3 degrees,
even though i didnt lap the core and heatsink surfaces i doubt i should be getting these temps with the 34 cfm 80mm fan on top.. its such a huge jump UP from the retail unit...
any ideas of what i can do to see if the pressure is the problem? use a shim under the pivot of the clip or something?
-john on his slowly rotting cpu =(
