The only reason I wouldn't really is the extra cost. I'm not sure it seems worth it. If I can pick up a nice 13" refurb black macbook, I'm not sure I'd move up to the extra cost of a new or refurb unibody Macbook Pro. Very tempting, but I could do a lot of other things with that money. I wouldn't replace what I have, except it's getting a little funky about eating power adapters and gets really hot. I'm sure it'll short out some day and then I'll have nothing. So, if I can make this last another couple of months, I think I'll be ready to buy.

The 13" is a nice compromise, with its 1280x800 screen. But it's all to do with your preferences. If I only had a 1280x800 screen for all my usage, I'd find it a bit cramped, but many others don't. Furthermore I'm perfectly happy using a 1024x768 screen for basic usage, when I know I'll be doing my heavy lifting on another machine.

The other option is to get a BlacBook refurb and an external 20" screen. That's cheaper than a 15", with way more screen real estate at home, and you can leave the extra screen at home when you travel to save space and weight.

This makes a good bit of sense. The job I'm about to start is going to require me to travel a good deal (though not on airplanes, I'll drive and stay in a location for a few days and then drive home), so having something I can travel with and find pleasant for usage is good. Of course, thinking about all the travel makes me kinda want a 15" anyway, because I've watched movies on this one and found it a good size. I'm not sure I'd feel the same on a 13". Maybe I just need to trade with my best friend for a day or two and play with her smaller iBook and see if the screen size is ok. Hmm....this is why I start weighing options so far in advance. I think too much about everything.

IMO glossy is fine unless you're MacWorld's Rob Griffiths. 😉
