situation w/ xbox not playing burned audio cd's

hey i use my xbox to play my dvd's as well, but the drawback to this reliance is that i don't have a unit that will play burned audio cd's, as the xbox rejects them... is there a way to make them playable? and if not, can u reccomend a dedicated c.d. player unit, i dont need any changers or anything, that can be had on the cheap? thanks for the insight

you could probably pick up a pretty cheap discman... and then get a cheap set of adapter cables that have the headphone jack on one end, regular RCA jack thingy on the other side

do a search for xbox cdrw compatibility list on google and it will let you know which work and which dont.

hmm burning it as a cdrw takes care of the issue? i dunno about the slower speed trick but i can try that as well... its just that xbox was programmed not to play burned cd's so i dunno if those will work

Xboxes do NOT read CDRs at all. If you can get them to, you are very, very lucky. Most people do not get them to play reliably. You must use a CDRW.

slap a mod chip in it:evil:

Won't fix the issue, they still don't play CDRs. You can play them through the network off your computer, though, if you have a mod chip and a network connection 🙂

Xbox's use 3 different drive manufacturers. Samsung drives tend to play almost anything. Philips are second best at reading burned media and are fairly easy to tweak. Thomson which seem to be the most prevalent are hard to tweak and can barely read dvdr in "some" cases. If Samsung xbox drives couldn't play cdr, then why would they sell on ebay for over $100 used?

yeah i've got a thompson, so i'm scared... i don't have my xbox w/ me right now, its up in santa barbara where i'll be going to college... but i want to burn some cd's of my dad's before i go back, so im putting blind faith in that compatibility list to be correct. i may bring an adapter for a personal cd player too just in case it comes to that, but we'll see... hmm anyone know a good online place to look for such an adapter adapter as notfred mentioned?

wouldn't the music sound less than stellar coming out of a portable cd player's 3.5 mm jack? are there any stand alone cd players w/ rca outs that are still cheap that u guys know of? please share
