Situation at 7-eleven... Anything to do to get this guy fired?

So me and a friend were going to eat at a restaurant but they only take cash. Since there was a 7-eleven right across from the restaurant, we figure we can go there, make a small purchase, and get cash back from debit. My friend proceeded to buy a roll of TUMS for $0.99. He told the cashier (curly hair huff Mexican dude who couldn't speak English well) that he wants $5 cash back. So the cashier told my friend to slide his card across the touchpad machine thingie. But then my friend noticed a charge on there that said "Lotto Sale $5." We looked at it and was like what is this?

We asked the cashier but he was like "what you want?" My friend said we want $5 cash back but there's a charge on there for $5 that shouldn't be there. The cashier continue to look lost and said "press the button, press the button." We were like "...but there's a charge that is showing up that we do not authorize." So that cashier reached over and said "you press this, this, and this." Basically he pressed all the buttons for my friend and even confirmed/authorize the transaction. We stood there looking baffled. We told him we did not authorize the transaction because there's a charge on there we did not know of. The guy proceeded to hand us a $5 lotto ticket and told us to come back tomorrow morning when his manager is there. He did not apologize or admit he made a mistake. He proceeded to ignore us while we were trying to explain to him that this is ludicrous. He rang up the next customer with us standing there trying to talk to him. It wasn't like we could just come back tomorrow morning either. We both work and live across town from there.

We got hella mad and walked out. My friend was so pissed he told the guy "we're trying to be nice here but you're acting like you want an ass kicking." The dude was like "whatever." We stood outside discussing the ordeal and figuring out what the hell just happened. My friend got so mad that he wanted to go back in and kick the guys ass. Him making a mistake is one thing, but not admitting to it and then totally disrespecting us is another thing. But we knew better. The cashier pretty much got scared and ran into the storeroom because we did not see him for the next half hour. He later proceeded to run out of the store to his car and took off.

On a customer/personal level, what that cashier did was wrong. He was being a total jackass. What he did was also illegal isn't it? The purpose of having that touchpad machine is for the customer to verify and authorize the charge. For him to just lean over and press all the buttons without our consent has to be illegal.

Is there any hope of getting this dude in trouble or fired?

I'll take care of it.

No really, what do you expect? You need to contact the owner of the store (it's usually on a placard somewhere) or 7-11 corporate, or maybe the police.

Edit: What would you do if the lotto ticket hit?! :D

ticket is for the lotto this wednesday. if my friend hits, we'll go back and pay the fool a few thousand to kick his own ass.

we ran into 3 cops at the restaurant and we explained the situation. of course they chose to do nothing.

i dont expect the cops to arrest the guy or anything of that nature. but him being present and acting as a mediator while we talk to the dude would have been nice.

rarely does anyone take disrespect towards me, but perhaps its because i'm aware of the advantages of using ATM's for my cash needs.

$5 cash back LOL

Don't assume people can do their jobs properly
Prepare to be inconvenienced in life.
(To you freind) Don't get so mad over little things like this.
Use the ATM!

I agree that he shouldn't have pressed those buttons, it's ok to talk to the manager and let him deal with his employee, but why would you expressly want him fired ?

Yeah, it's much better to pay a 1.50 fee for getting money out of an ATM than it is to buy something for less than that and still be able to get money back. Where'd you pick up your economics degree from, 7-11?

True, but it shouldn't have caused him aggravation.

we bank at washington mutual which doesnt have many atms. plus in my opinion, why would i want to draw out $20 for a $10 meal? i certainly don't like carrying around extra cash that I would be tempted to spend. getting cash back is a lot easier as many stores allow you to use your debit card and withdraw any increments of $$$.

hopefully you and your friend are banned from that store. Threatening the guy was a nice touch. Its only $5. You and your friend need to get over it. The guy makes crap an hour, probably has kids to feed, and you want him fired over $5. I'll paypal you $25 never to post here again.
