was over at a friends the other day, and his brother (senior in hs) and his other little bro (7th grader) were laughing and oogling over some sites with disgusting pics of mutilated dead bodies, autopsy photos, accident victims, etc.

I couldn't believe it.. I was always curious, since "faces of death part whatever" came to town on halloween when I was a kid (I live in a small conservative bible belt town, it was protested here).

but I can't stomach that stuff. its weird. some friends just see it and laugh or ignore it, I just can't hang.

any thoughts?

ps - whats weird is, I can take any of the hardest core or weirdest porn, but not this kinda material

I am not a big dead body fan. I can stomach other things but not dead people. I guess it has to do with fear.

that kinda stuff just sticks in my mind and doesn't want to leave.

like when I first looked at the stuff, just out of curiosity, and the first pic I saw was of some dead kid on a lawn with his head split open and crushed, with his brain lying on the ground next to him..

not good

PS: Please don't tell any one where you are going, the appeals are tricky & we lost the last one because of a minor technical violation. Something about a foot.. or was it an ear !

lol@man snake...

How did I know you were going to say that?

I am a natural empath and I cannot help but feel other people's pain very strongly.

If I feel like bawling my eyes out, then I'll look at stuff like that. As it is, I can barely read the daily newpaper.

I just want to vomit when I see that crap.

I mean, the way I see it, if you were in a car accident or got your head blown off with a 12 guage, would you want sickos laughing at your mutilated body, or perv's spanking it to the images of your gory untimely end?

if so, then you are the type of person who enjoys this kind of crap.

of course, plenty of people have issues with porn .

I got to look at slides of those things in my skeletal biology class last week :D
Next semester - forensics. The teacher already said that we'll get more then.

I can deal with the pictures. It's kinda cool looking at them. I thought about going into forensics for a while, until I realized that I couldnt' deal with stuff like that on a daily basis. I'm not even sure if I could deal with seeing something like that in person.
So, now I'm gonna stick with bones. They're dead, dry, and smell a lot better than rotting corpses :)

I like to watch HBO Autopsies series, but sometimes that freaks me out too (although I still watch it).
Some images are just too freaky and worse they stay fresh on my mind for days.

I can't understand the fascination with seeing someone else's death. This is the most personal and private part of your life and should not be exploited by others.

I have no problem with seeing the dead body, had to disect them in college, but not in this context. (By the way NEVER donate your body to science!) I was learning to help, not getting off on someones pain. All really do look about the same, except for the physical truma.

Porn is a lot different, those people are consenting to having their image broadcast, and thinking of sex is a lot easier than thinking of death.

Toolgirl, yeah there is something bad about "that" smell.

In Military Police school, they show you crime scene photos of actual murders, deaths, rapes, etc. from military installations from around the world. Although they can be disturbing, you have to turn yourself inside out on them and view them in a different manner. Think of it from a doctor/paramedic's point of view. They would view it as something being broken that may or may not be able to be fixed. Much the same way we look at a computer in pieces and want to fix it, you can look at the human body in the same way. Also look at it as a Police Officer. You are looking for anything that could lead to the arrest or explain the "W's" (who, what, where, when, why and.....uuhhhh...how). I think that if you view it from these points of view, it makes it easier that way.

BTW, one crime scene photo that really stuck with me, not from the horror of it, but from the commission of the crime, was that of a female spouse/dependent that was caught cheating on her husband while he was away. He took a chainsaw to her from the crotch up to her chin. Now, mind you, the image was troublesome, but the fact that a human, her husband no less, could become so cold, harsh and callous or turn off any emotion in such a way as to allow him to fire up a chainsaw, pursue her through the quarters and rip her from crotch to chin is even more disturbing to me than any image provided by the act itself. It's a tough, tough world out there.

I got used to dead bodies after 2 days of gross anatomy. The rest of the semester was a piece of cake, although you stank like crap for hours after leaving the lab.

I can see how some people have different tolerances than others, but I don't understand how some people can enjoy those pictures! Personally, I am disgusted by them. Dead bodies are one thing but when I hear about the story behind it is another story. The actual picture does not disturb me, but when I find out about what actually happend I get grossed out (like Rogues' story). I also saw a picture where a woman was attacked by a dog (on purpose)... that one is the one that sticks in my mind and I wish I could get it out :(

I really admire you people that can deal with the gross anatomy things (dissection, autopsy, etc)
I can't imagine myself cutting up dead people (I did some small animal in biology class though that's kind of ok with me).
You people must have some kind of special talent to deal with those things and still be able to sleep well at night.
