Site comparing long distance rates

In a long distance hot deals forum post about 6 months ago, Affordable Voice Communications seemed the best value.

Well I and a few friends have been with them since, and we are very pleased with their service. Check them out.

I was previously with PNG for five years, and never had a problem; but AVC has better rates, lower taxes, no funny charges, and a very simple do-it-yourself online phone service and signup web site.

ILL weigh in on affordable voice com as well. Ive had them for 8 months or so and havent had a problem with them at all. check them out for no hassle, cheap long distance. call anytime you want.

Anyone else with Affordable Voice Communications? Everything looks great aside from the .65 cent charge for a paper bill, and $0.50 + 5.00% charge to pay by check, not to mention charges for paying by credit card.

join the revolution mileageman. Paper bills are a thing of the past. i get a great itemized bill by email every month. I guess if you dont have your credit cards paid off like me, it would be easy to get lazy and not pay your long distance bill. The credit card charge is really minimal, you ever looked at all the bs charges on your current phone bill and long distance bill? AVC's plan rocks, none of this i cant call until after 8 bs, or waiting for a weekend, pick up the phone and call someone for pennies a minute anytime you want.

I have been using Zone LD for about 3 months now (switched after Essential.com started charging a monthly fee). Zone bills in very small increments and it is cool -- you can log onto the internet and see calls in progress. Okay, who would do that, but it is cool. I got it becuase LD to Germany is .065 and my wife calls her sister there all the time. You can also set 5 states to call for .045. I did not check the in-state reates becuase I use my Cell Phone for all LD in the state to use up those 500 minutes per month of free LD from your Home Calling Area 🙂

I have had no problems with Zone LD so far. Here is an example of the billing:

02/15/2002 08:46 am (405) xxx-xxxx Zone Telecom 8:18 $0.332 (Ks to Oklahoma)

02/15/2002 07:27 am 49-931 xxx-xxxx TCAST 17:36 $1.144 (Ks to Germany)

02/13/2002 10:14 am 49-931 xxx-xxxx TCAST 0:54 $0.059 (Ks to Germany)

Obviously from the last call to Germany that was less than a minute, I was not even charged the .065 so they do not charge in full minute increments.

Way better site for comparing prices on LD:

SmartPrice

OneSuite is still a great deal, but you do have to dial a zillion numbers. Basically, enter your area code and exchange and this site tells you what kind of sign-up deals are available from your phone, and can actually sign you up.

And no, I don't work for them 🙂

I don't mind electronic bills, however this is for an elderly person who absolutely needs a paper bill. Right now I have an account with capsule ($250+ mo.) and an account with ECG (<$20 mo.), and they are both pretty fair. I had been with PowerNet Global, and they were pretty good too.

I have had Zone LD for a month now and I think the service is pretty great. No monthly fee, no monthly minimum, 6 sec billing increments, what more could you want?

If you are interested in signing up for Zone LD I would check out a site called Getconnected.com. There is something like a $25 rebate if you sign up for Zone LD through them. What I saw on the site is that the offer expires on 2/28 and you need to send them copies of your first two months billing statements.

Ended up switching to AVC, due to the one second billing and $0.04 rate for in-state and state-to-state. Most of my calls are short - less than 15 seconds - and this makes a BIG difference.

Thanks all!
