Sitcom question

As a huge sitcom fanatic , can someone tell me why every sitcom producer , has to try and add a baby to a series when its at its peak ? Babies have killed so many shows , I can't believe that every friggin producer still falls in this trap .

Just My Rant 😉

glad Seinfeld didn't fall into this. It works for a lot of sitcoms though. And being that ppl generally have kids, its one more thing for us to relate to.

its the drug rehab people that make them do it...that way they know in about 15-20 years they will have new patients

And what I hate even more , is when they add the baby , the baby backfires and then all of a sudden the baby gets like 2 or 3 years older or completely friggin dissapears

The only show I can remember where this ended the show was Murphy Brown. When she got pregnant, the show was pretty much over.

Full House lasted a pretty long time....

granted I stopped watchigna round the time the olsen twins were brought in....but maybe that's cause i grew out of it...

I didn't know there was a show before the olson twins! (still don't think there was though)

You can only push a plot/character/joke/situation so far, a baby is just on of the devices to try and make a show running out of steam not suck

/me has not watched a sitcom in over a year

Hrmm...maybe i'm an idiot. Or maybe i'm thinking about the twins in the the sitcoms (and not the one character played by olsen twins)

Has Rachel had her baby yet on Friends? If so thats like the stake in the heart of that show. It started to go bad when they had the monica/chandler wedding, which is another sitcom no-no if you ask me. But maybe the people who have been married, and had kids appreciate it more. Seems kind of stupid to cut off a good portion of your main demographic by focusing on them though...

If I was the writer/producer and one of my actresses got pregnant, I'd write it in that she just got fat. It would make for better jokes, and would give her and others some incentive to not ruin my show in the future.

Mad About You and Married With Children were dead before the babies came into the picture. Bringing a baby in was just trying to grasp at straws before they got cancelled.

The show hasn't been the same since they all turned 30. Unlike the other shows mentioned, though, Friends is still funny.
