So my sister is blind and totally depends on her computer for many many things, shes taking some online college courses and for whatever reason IE 6 is screwing up badly on her computer by not allowing her to enter text into search boxes(like on Google) or for her e-mail account it wont let her type username/password.

Sadly Firefox doesnt work as well with her speech program ATM so thats not an option either, I've patched it with IE6 SP1 and all other updates I thought might help with no dice, apparently this was a problem about 6 months ago and they had do what sounds like a system restore, obviously I dont want to have to go through the trouble of that but I will if necessary....soooooo can anyone figure this out WITHOUT me having to system restore/windows reinstall.

And FYI The speech program is called JAWS, and its NOT casuing the problem as I uninstalled it and the problem still existed...

Could be that some security upgrade has turned off a connection allowed feature.

Try going into the IE at TOOLS, Internet Options, and clear the Temp Files, Cookies, and History.
Sometimes that will work.
Also check into the Security Tab & reset the 4 categories (Internet/Local Internet/Trusted/Restricted) to Default Level.

Don't be scared I said :)

System restore points are designed for this exact type of problem. It's really a trivial thing. It's not like a repair or something. If the idea freaks you out, just run a quick system state backup with ntbackup to a file. Any problems, just restore it and reboot.

Stuff like this is often (where often = all the f'n time) caused by 3rd party apps. Go to tools | options, jump to the Programs tab and hit the "manage add ons" button. After you get over the shock of just how much 3rd party crap can end up there, start disabling stuff until the problem goes away.

:)

Bah no dice on managing add ons either....system restore is looking better and better unless someone else has an idea?

Possible control hack?

Can you get any of the Anti-Virus or Spyware programs to update?

What is the OpSys - WinXP?

You may have to toss in the installation CD & run a 'repair' from the second screen (NOT THE BLACK & WHITE ONE)
but chose 'Repair' from the Blue installation screen <R>
It will leave the installed programs intact, but you may have to re-registery it with the Key Code and Product ID.

Been a rash of that lately.
