New computer.

It's reporting that my computer fan has failed. The BIOS and just opening up the case reveal otherwise. Is there anything I can do to make the program see the truth? It might not be a big deal but I want to make sure its information is accurate.

Thanks.

Is it an 80mm fan or larger? Some of those spin at low rpm's, and the motherboard can't detect them. Sometimes a BIOS update will do the job, sometimes not - depends on 1) if a BIOS update can fix the problem, 2) if the motherboard maker knows about the problem, and 3) if the motherboard maker feels like going to the trouble of supporting its products. If you've got all three, you're in good shape.

Or maybe the fan's just defective.

What motherboard or PC is this?

Well, assuming that this is the right motherboard (do confirm that first, or else you'll flash the wrong BIOS and have an unbootable board), then there are BIOS upgrades available. No idea if they'll take care of the problem though. The rather short release notes, or rather "note," doesn't mention anything about fans.
