SiS900 Network Card & WinXP problems

Hi!

I'm using two SiS900 based network cards linked with a crossover cable. One of the systems uses Win98 & Linux and the other one uses WinXP. When I try to transfer files accross the network I get really low speeds (sometimes even lower than 10MBps eventhough the cards are connected at 100MBps)...

Before having WinXP installed I used Win2000 and everything worked ok...

I've tried updating the drivers that came with WinXP with the ones at the SiS.com site (1.14) but the problem remains. Any hints on how I can solve this?

Make sure full duplex is off. You need a switch for FD, and if the drivers have it on it will slow the transfers down like mad.

Well, that didn't do the trick... Still mad slow! I think the drivers switch to half-duplex automaticaly, because I tried forcing full-duplex and it didn't work as it should... Any other ideas?

Thx

Well, I have a couple, either cheap or easy.....

Easy:
Try it with a hub/switch in between.

Is the cable home made? If so, try a manufactured cable insstead.

Cheap:
Use a dos bootdisk with networking to test the connection, that should let you know if it is OS related.

The cable is home made...

I've just tried installing Linux on this computer (the one with WinXP) and it works just fine, so it definitly is OS related... I think I can safely rule out the possibility of the cable.

I would like to try usind a switch or a hub between them, but I don't have access to one...
