Even though XBitLabs says the SiS755 will be announced during "Q3", it'll probably be more like September. Who knows when boards will be available though. Hopefully soon after the announcement.

For Q3?02 SiS planned the launching of the first ClawHammer chipset aka SiS755 to come. This product will support ClawHammer and AGP 8x bus. Together with the SiS755 North Bridge it will comprise SiS963 South Bridge supporting 1GB/sec MuTIOL bus connecting the chipset bridges, ATA/133, USB 2.0, IEEE1394. Also SiS755 may use SiS963B South Bridge, which will also support ADSL. Besides all the rest.

In addition, SiS will annouce the integrated graphics version of the SiS755, the SiS760:

In the end of Q4?02 SiS is going to release an integrated SiS755 called SiS760. Besides the already listed features of SiS755 this solution will also have a SiS330 based integrated graphics core.

<< This is scary, you know somebody who asks questions and answers back all by themselves?😉 >>

😀

Um, is anybody gonna comment or what. 🙁😕

I think it's awesome! Do you think that AMD will ever transition the Hammer chip (or a varient of it) to the desktop market? What do you think will be after the athlon, since it's nearing the end of it life cycle? 🙂

BTW - AGodSpeed - Did you ever check on that gateway message?

Yeah, that's pretty freaky. Posting a message, replying to yourself then quickly editing the reply in fear of offending the original poster. Get some help, AGodspeed. 😉

Good news for me, I love SiS chipset at the first sight (when I bought K7S5A), can't wait til SiS755 is launched in the market.

no serial ata by that time? I'll pass, wouldn't even consider a hammer unless serial ata was available.

AGodspeed,

I`m sure Pabster with his " I love SiS " T-shirt will be along to make a comment or two 😉,anyway it`s hard to make a real comment without benchmarks and a review of a board etc,but more boards and competition is always good for us 🙂,now where is my Hammer CPU

I actually think this is the first smart move I've seen for the AMD platform in a while. The VIA approach seems to be to push new boards out with questionable benefit just to get people to upgrade. Creating chipsets for a memory architecture that wasn't even ratified is a bit funny. Especially when JEDEC is pushing forward with DDR II. SiS on the other hand is looking at the real future. They have solid chipsets for the Athlon platform. The Athlon is reaching end of life, and so it only makes sense to not invest resources in more chipsets for it. SiS looks like they are going to be in a really good position when Hammer comes out.

Hammer targets desktops right from the start! Clawhammer is meant for performance desktops, workstations and 1-2 way servers. A mobile version will be introduced also (don't know when though). Sledgehammer is meant for multiprocessor servers.

This looks good, i like SiS' products.

I don't see the big stink about Serial ATA. Is it going to be cheaper than SCSI? If it isnt i dont really see the big deal about it.

who woulda thought SiS would become such a major player in the industry these days. I remember back in 96', when my family bought an IBM Aptiva 166mhz computer with an SiS chipset, i was thinkin "man, SiS really freakin blows". I always assumed them to be a low end manufacturer, never capable of producing high performing chipsets. SiS has now earned my respect and shown the world that they can produce high quality chipsets, and with news of their new graphics card lineups things can only get better.

<< Moreover, SiS746 is the last Socket A chipset from SiS. All other Socket A solutions from SiS will be designed to support Hammer only. >>

this statement saddens me. 🙁 So i have to look toward VIA for my next Athlon upgrade? 🙁🙁

Or nForce2.

we haven't seen a hammer either, so I assume that it won't be mainstream either? why get it at all...
