sis bought a dell laptop without cd rom can i bye one from dell and just plug it in? or are laptops like desktops where you need to add a ide cable to motherboard? in other words how does it attach?

uh depends on the slots, if it has an expansion bay it automatically connects when you put it in there, besides that you would have to use an external unit which generally connects through usb.

I suspect that it is a modular removable CD-ROM drive that you are referring to. You can buy one off of Dell or get one from here.

The DELL lappy I have didn't have a CD drive either when I got it. I foud one off eBay for really reasonable. As long as you know which model to get.

yes. the cd drive is a must have now. otherwise, how do you intend to install programs or reformat or wutever w/o warezing? 🙂
