sis 650 or intel 845g (or whatever the chipset will be called)

Hi

I want to buy a mobo with integrated graphics and I like stability so I guess an intel platform is a good call. Which integrated chipset would you recommend? also, is the graphics really only bad in 3d and acceptable in 2d and dvd playback or would it be better for me to buy a normal mobo and buy the cheapest gf2mx or radeon I can find? Next, is overclocking out of the question with these chipsets? Also, is the via chipset worth my while or should I forget about it since I am lead to believe that the major manufacturers didn't use anything that could that even remotely resembled a p4 chipset if it was made by via?

Lots of questions and I thank you for your help.

I use the epox ep-4sda+, and it performs well except for the sound quality( some popping sounds when booting up) . The msi 645 ultra is only $73, if you're looking to save a few bucks. For P4, get the 1.6a (about $150). Mine runs at 2.21 gigs when upping the cpu voltage by .10. The rdram boards perform better, but will cost more. Rdram and ddram are about the same price. To my knowledge, there are no integrated boards for the p4. The nforce boards come with built in sound, lan, and video only for the athlon or xp. I've used 2 good video cards- the gainward geforce 2 ti 500 and the ati radeon 7500. Both perform similarly, and cost about $100.

To my knowledge, there are no integrated boards for the p4

There are actually four so far, all based on the SiS 650 and all microATX form factor:

1) Biostar M7SXG
2) ECS L4S5MG
3) Jetway S450L
4) MSI 6524 (SDR support only)

The SiS 650 performs roughly like a GeForce2 MX200; the T&L support apparently isn't enabled yet, so performance will probably be a bit less. SiS has a new graphics core coming up that'll probably be available when the new Intel integrated graphics chipsets are available. Preliminary specs on the Intel graphics core look decent, but there's no word on performance.

I use the epox ep-4sda+

How far have you been able to overclock it and how do you like it overall? There's a bit of interest in the Epox/SiS 645 boards, but people have been shying away since there's no manual or BIOS (original or updates) posted online.
