Sirius XM Prepares for Possible Bankruptcy

I've had XM since Dec 2003, moved it into 3 different cars. It was really great when I was in College Station, especially when I was roadtripping a lot to Austin and Dallas. When I live in major metro areas, hasn't really been all that great, but worth the $8/month that I paid. Glad I didn't go for lifetime subscription..is that your lifetime or theirs? Although if they keep broadcasting, that would be a pretty dick move for them to cut off the lifetimers' contracts (although probably legal), but not the people who pay monthly/yearly.

No one cares.

I do.

oh

i do too. sirius xm is a great product. try driving a car for 24 hours without one. you'll be damn bored. and no, ipod is not sufficient if i want to hear new stuff.

Fixed...and yes, I did that last month, but fortunately I had XM.. 😛

SIRI dropped 50% today under fears of shareholder dilution with their Feb 17th bill coming next week. I just picked up 1000 shares for $57.30. Crazy to think this was trading at $60/share in 2000.

They compress the crap out of most of the channels.

I don't know how folks can stand it. It's pretty bad, at least to me.

Why does this matter if you listen to talk radio primarily? MLB is why I have XM, and I listen to the MLB channel, ESPN, and Mad Dog Radio 90% of the time.

I agree, the music could sound better, but nothing's going to beat a CD/MP3 player, which everyone has in their car already. Or at home.

It's still light-years ahead of terrestrial radio when it comes to variety, and commercials can suck me. Yes, I have them on my sports stations, but I have 4 primary stations to choose from. Once a commercial comes up, I change channels. Viola.

I had XM for the free 3 months and it was quite lame... I'd rather be able to listen to free streaming internet radio (which I can do if I hook my phone up to my car).

Doesn't the quality of internet radio suck even more than satellite?

The high quality internet stream on Sirius is better than the Satellite stream, less compression.

What am I going to do for entertainment in my office for 4 to 5 hours a day. I  listening to Stern.

Good, I never understood this thing. Why not just listen to a CD/iPod?

Howard Stern

Sad news for us satellite customers. Hopefully they can manage to pull out of this ok.

Hold on, let me turn my iPod to the MLB station/any MLB game/ESPN news/any live sporting event/any live talk radio show/etc.

Wait. That isn't possible.

I can program my radio so every time any of my fav artists or songs is about to come on it alerts me so I can switch over to that station.
but...
If i'm feeling aggro, I can listen to Faction
If i'm feeling chill, I can listen to Coffee house
If i'm feeling metro, I can listen to Area
If I need to catch up on the latest "yo mama" jokes, I can listen to Foxxhole
If I need to rub one out, I can listen to Playboy
If I feel like Phelps, I can listen to The Joint
If the kids are in the car, we listen to Radio Disney or Kids place live
I can get my world news during the morning drive

I have yet to see my iPod touch do that...oh I can use my iPod touch as a flashlight or have it make fart noises...yeah still lame.

I would if that Sirius XM app ever comes out for the iPhone.

The beta2 is bloody fantastic. Super stable now and even runs great using backgrounder.

Do you have a link saying they are in merger talks with Directv? I heard they were looking for cash from them,
but not this.

link

could just be a cash infusion. but earlier article i saw said possible "merger"

There's a lot of possibilities:

1) XM Radio itself could just go bankrupt, leaving the parent company Sirius XM still in the green. For more info, read: http://siriusbuzz.com/

2) DirecTV could buy out shareholders and debt of Sirius XM

3) Ergen buys out the debt but doesn't buy out the shareholders.

4) Bankruptcy

Of course, #1 and #2 are beneficial for us stockholders.
