My only problem with the merger is that Mel (Karmazin?) will be running the show and I will lose Opie and Anthony from XM. Howard is on in mornings also and Mel will kill O+A so Howard has no competition.

Further, if they truly merge and only offer one service, the HUGE contracts they pay for Sports (MLB, NFL, NBA, etc) would not be needed, since there would be no alternatives for these leagues.

Does anyone know if Sirious has an audio book station like XM's Sonic radio?

So if the merger does go through, they'll most likely end up getting rid of duplicate stations on both services. There's no way they can add more channels to their existing services without getting rid of some since they're already maxed out on available bandwidth. Hopefully they don't decide to lower the audio quality to pack more stations in. It's already pretty bad on some channels.

I don't need hundreds of useless stations that I won't listen to.

NPR on Sirius is kinda lame. They don't have Morning Edition, Weekend Edition, or All Things Considered... all of the decent news shows on their network. At least they had Car Talk, anyway.

I don't have to directly pay for terrestrial radio which in my humble opinion makes it different. There is a limited amount of competition from mp3 players but I'm not going to get baseball or football games on my ipod. It's a different animal.

Minnesota mentioned similar. While there is very little competition between the two companies, the government will still need to investigate if it is fair.

Good luck.

Well since the DOJ approved it there's a pretty high probability that you'll see this all wrapped up on the government side within the next month or two. Why? Because by long tradition the FCC typically goes along with what the DOJ has to say in merger cases when they need to. For that matter a lot of the talks going over at the FCC for a while haven't been about whether or not to approve the merger but what strings to attach to it. So the FCC could approve the merger but put some requirements into it such as leasing so much for public access and public education. Possibly a price freeze on subscription prices for the next couple of years. The chairman of the FCC has taken more on the side of approving it as well especially since Sirius & XM told him they'd be willing to have a la carte plans available for subscribers.

All I can add is that the content will probably degrade to the stuff that I really don't want. I'm referring to music, talk radio and sports.

The only reason that I still suscribe to XM is for there one and only program that addresses audio books. Even that has been anexed during the weekends for sports bandwidth. It's really tragic but understandable.

I have been a Sirius subsriber since before Howard and I have always loved it. Although I believe the merger will be a good thing, I don't think it will affect me very much. I have a life time subscription (I know, life of the radio) and I primarily listen to Howard and Bubba. Raw Dog and Blue Collar Radio are close seconds.

What's the rumor on when the FCC will approve the merger? I want to capitalize on this and expect either SIRI or XMSR to pop on the day of announcement.

Jesus, I have XM. Is Sirius like southern radio or something? All those shows make the rebel flag pop up in my head.

WOW! Freakin' awesome! Apparently this merger was MUCH more serious than the SBC/AT&T and Exxon/Mobile merger as it took them much longer to approve. I'm glad Clear Channel's bribes didn't pay off in this case.

lol, makes ya think about what priorities our government has :) Two struggling companies want to merge before they both bleed out too much money, and the government takes the longest time in HISTORY to allow them to merge.

We've got thousands of honorable soldiers dying in Iraq/Afghanistan, and our governments big concerns are Sirius/XM and Steroids and Baseball. :(

Sad.
