damn, sounds pretty sweet. but I guess now the question is since I already bought the Delphi XM unit (havent activated yet), should I keep it or go with Sirius. Anyone know which one's better?

the one that gives u free equipment, cuz neither will be around for long. XM has to more than quadruple its subscriber base just to break even.

I think it's a bit premature to declair them both dead. I think XM is stronger at the moment for sure.

That is the biggest problem with Sirius, they don't have any intent of marketing their product for home use. I looked specifically for home equipment on their website and they mention only RVs, Trailers etc. but never a regular home. I think that Sirius seems to be the more premium provider, but they are really dumb for neglecting the home market.

Since somebody mentioned sound quality, does anyone know which service features better sound? I'd imagine that each station has a different bit-rate, but probably one does better overall than the other in sound quality.

When I first got my Sirius system, I hated it. Sound quality was horrendous (this was in Oct.). However, they've recently upgraded their codecs, and wow... I am their biggest fan now. According to most people I've talked to, both XM and Sirius have very good sound quality. Sirius, however, sounds a little better, fuller, not as flat as XM. Plus, Sirius allows a lot more detail in their display. XM will display an artist like Christina A (they have a very small max display size). Sirius can go a lot further (I think they max out at 256 characters). Both XM and Sirius have great programming. You'll never go back to regular terrestrial radio every again (I haven't listened to a local station since I got the system). Sirius got rid of their 90's station, which sucks since that was my favorite station, but they may add it back. Sirius has better rock and electronic selections, as well as eclectic fair (bluegrass, anyone?). XM has solid programming all the way around. This friends and family deal is sweet. Definitely jump on it. I paid like $400+ for my entire system. Oh, if you went to CES, you'll know that they will release home versions of Sirius this year. They also demoed video through existing equipment. They were able to broadcast 2 channels with no loss of sound quality to any of their radio stations. It's just proof of concept, but it's pretty freaking cool. Anyway, if you're a music snob and remember when radio and MTV were pioneers of music, instead of regurgitating popular music, then get Sirius or XM. You'll never go back.

Extreme - Mutha (deep cut off one of their earlier albums) Big Rock Station
Frou Frou - forgot the name, but you won't hear Frou Frou on any local station
Warrant - Heaven
Orbital - More electronic music

Oh, little known benefit from being a Sirius subscriber: You can listen to their stations via a stream through an internet connection. So if you're away from your car, you can still get programming.

I called that number back the other day since its been over a month now since I placed the order. The guy said kenwood started shipping them last tuesday. Hopefully this was true. He said I could possibly have it later this week. He also said they were telling people it would take 6 weeks to receive it. It's been 4 now. I asked about perhaps getting a tracking number but there wasn't a way. The offer originally said you'll have to sign up for 1yr at $12.95 and paying the $15 activation fee. I did ask if I could sign up online to get the cheaper activation fee and the lower monthly amount by just prepaying for the yr up front, he said that can be done as well. That is if there still around for that whole yr. Not sure which option i'm going to take, but I figure if I have to have the system for at least a yr then maybe paying up front for the 1yr term isn't so bad of idea unless they go bankrupt before that.

Go XM dude. Two XM subcriptions and loving it. If I was a betting man, I would bet that XM will be around much longer than Sirius.

I went to whoever had the cheaper system. I priced what it would cost to get xm stuff over sirius equip and sirius was cheaper. I didn't want to use fm modulators or have a seperate display unit hooked up somewhere. I wanted the simplest and cheapest system to start out. My radio is sirius ready so this free equip will hook right into the cd changer plug and I won't even need the modulator that comes with it. If my stereo was xm ready then I would have went to xm.

Well I'm waiting on my sirius tuner to arrive, but if you haven't made the decision on XM or Sirius and you have a Kenwood deck... Well you have both options!

XM To Kenwood

Will connect an XM Pioneer Tuner to a Kenwood deck. Sounds pretty sweet to me.

Well...... I will say that after the yr contract ends i'll probably be cancelling it. Most of the music I never heard of. Only catagory I like is the pop. I don't even listen to any of the talk stations like news, sports, etc.. So its really not worth the price for only 5 stations or so. I have the cd channels on my dishnetwork system and even 95% of them are junk. I just like the regular fm radio. With my crappy direcpc connection I can't even listen to the live stream without it being all garbled up. So thats useless.
