I tried search and couldnt find it so sorry if this is a ******.

It's supposed to be out soon. Since I'm the last nerd in America not to have Satellite radio, i was hoping some folks here had some opinions. My issues are simple:

1) i want to be able to hear live broadcasts in the car
2) i want to be able to hear live broadcasts in my office (I cant stream at work - proxy blocks streaming), but since there's no portable receiver that can get signals indoors, the 50 hours recording time on the S50 sounds cool
3) i want to be able to record/save songs/shows/etc that I like, as well as upload some of my own music.
4) the s50 looks sweet. Sirius has bought into the apple design philosophy (out of the box "wow" factor. The LCD screen, size, shape and other aesthetics look great (in pictures).
5) Why satellite radio? I live in a 100% clear channel market. Otherwise known as hell on earth (for this reason).

Thoughts? opinions? There was a very large negative reaction when it was announced that the portable portion of the S50 cant receive live streams (like the MyFi XM2go). It's more like an ipod/podcast when it's off one of the docks (right down to the control wheel), but it can receive live feeds on the car & home docks.

Need link to item. Is it small? Like, mp3 player sized?

I'm waiting for a cell with mp3 capabilities and sirius.

Sorry guys, I just figured ATOT would have known about this for months. BTW, since when is r-e-p-o-x-y a filtered term?

Here's some links to help you guys out:

Official Site

Orbitcast - has a link to some good hands on pictures at the end.

Sorry if I was confusing before. Basicly, I'm looking for feedback from:

1) Delphi Myfi/Pionner Airwave XM2go owners
2) people who know about the S50/Sirius fans
3) anyone else who wants to chime in

The S50 is controversial because the base unit is portable but CAN NOT receive live satellite broadcasts. What Sirius has done is merged an IPOD and a semi-portable satellite radio receiver. It's a new concept aimed at addressing the failings of the portable XM players that have had high return rates because: 1) Their reception is flakey outdoors, 2) they still cannot receive indoors worth a darn. That's when the ipod/podcast aspect of the S50 comes in handy. You can pre-record 50 hours instead of just 5 hours on the portable XM units.

It seems that the concept has been dififcult for people to understand.

Nope, I'm happy with my Myfi. Granted, I can only record 5 hours, but that's all I need for work anyway. Actually, I don't get a chance to listen to all 5 hours everyday anyway.

I prefer XM broadcasting over Sirius anyway. I don't care for Howard Stern. Now that XM has Ron & Fez, I'm hooked until Ron & Fez go away, hopefully that will be a long time.

I am planning on getting the Sirius S50 as soon as it comes out - it's been postponed for like a month, now nobody knows when it will be out.

You can only get live Sirius Radio when you're docked. Outside the docking station it's an mp3 player.

However, if you have line of sight with the sky at your office you can set up a docking station at work (like in the picture on the sirius website - notice the guy is sitting in front of a huge window)

Now, the features available on the S50 are enough to make me buy it, regardless of not being able to broadcast live radio while out of the dock.

It will notify me when the Devils are playing hockey so I can check the scores...it can record songs randomly from my favorite stations, download songs I like while I'm listening, and accept MP3's from my computer. Plus there's a bunch more it can do and I'm sure I'll figure out its limitations once I buy it - one limitation is you can't transfer songs from the S50 to your computer (which I'm sure someone will create a software hack for...but still...)

Its a kickass product, and the only thing that would make it better is more memory, or removable memory IMO

*Bump*

Did anyone else get one for Christmas?

I'm loving mine, but my ghetto DIY install has got to go. Think I'm going to call around today for install prices. Just wondered if any of you have recommendations/avoid lists?

BTW, the player is fantastic - I have about 80mp3's (I havent bothered putting more on there), plus about 8 hours of recorded radio on there so far. I have a few minor gripes here and there about controls and firmware, but overall, it's a great unit, and I cannot believe how much Ive been missing in clearchannel hell...

I wouldn't go with Sirius, personally, I'd opt for XM Radio. Sirius just dropped Fox News off their lineup over the holiday, which seems pretty dumb to me, especially considering FNC just came back all over the top of last years Neilsen ratings. Makes me wonder about the foresight of the Sirius folks.

They replaced FoxNews with CNN. Upgrade.

I really enjoy the channel lineup Sirius has. I didnt intend for this to be a fanboi debate either. I went with them because the s50 is the only player I can use in my office (I cannot stream over the PC due to network blocks).

Ya, the s50 is pimp. If youre listening to music on the go, you dont need it to be live. That would only be useful for talk or news. Alas, I am an XM fanboy, so I must wait....
