Sirius Radio

My friend just got a new car and it has Sirius radio in it. He did not pay for Sirius and he gets like 10 channels is this like Sirius's only free channels or is it because its on some trial?

Thanks

The only Sirius channel that's supposed to work without any subscription is The Weather Channel. If he's getting more, he either got a free trial with his car or something is goofy with his radio.

Brand new and out of date already. "Sigh" Take it back and demand a MP3 replacement.

I'd recommend he pay for Sirius. I just got it a couple months ago and it's basically all I listen to now.

AM/FM blow chunks.

Howard Stern rules!

Oh, and I have a Pioneer iPod controller with my HU and I almost always listen to Sirius even over the iPod.

It's not out of date yet, anyway... Although he'll probably be pretty pissed when XM and Sirius merge and he needs a new radio to listen to all of the stations. Since both networks work on different frequencies, one radio can't listen to both networks yet.

mel karmazin said you won't need new radios. they will port over the channels you don't have (not duplicates). in the future they will release radios to cover the whole spectrum.

I believe you do have to follow instructions and activate even if you have a paid account. It should automatically download the latest list of stations as soon as it's activated, but you do have to be sure you have a signal at the time, so don't be sitting under a tree or highway overpass. 😉

if he hasn't subscribed for a free trial his radio may still be in "dealership" mode. at least that's what our salesperson told us.

also, when my sister had a trial subscription to XM in her car, she thought there were only 10 radio stations, but there were actually only 10 presets. there were MANY more available, she just didn't know how to tune them in at first.

ps - we love sirius. we never listen to FM anymore.
