Sean Connery is quite possibly my favorite actor. He is the man! I hope to have 1/10th of what he has when I am his age. He is a very distingushed gentleman. I've always thought he was a class act. He makes me proud of my Scottish heritage.
 
He lives in Spain now but was supposed to be honored this way a few years ago. It was his Scottish separatism that hindered him then.
Don't know what changed the Queens mind.

Good thing we don't knight people here in the States. At least in England, you have only to get down on one knee. To be knighted by Clinton, you'd have to get down on both knees.

I regard Sean Connery as one of the best actors in Hollywood. From Bond to Indiana Jones, he has entertained and delighted millions. Once again he can add to his list of accomplishments.
 
I think the Queen has changed her mind to reflect the new (and good IMO) attitude towards devolution. I'm not in favour of separation, and polls show neither are most Scots, but I think it is important that people have local governments who are responsible for the every day running of a country.

I can see the annoyance of people having their country run by a different culture hundreds of miles away in another country.

Contradiction in terms, fellow compatriot. 'Local government' are only responsible for a 'local' area, not a country, the day-to-day running of which is the responsibility of a 'Soveriegn government'.

Well Mr. pedant, in that case I was obviously referring to Scotland as being the local area. And as Scotland is a country I phrased it as I did above.

I see where you are coming from with my slightly unclear statement, but I'm sure you know what I meant and I can't see what you're adding to the conversation.

Just to make myself clear, the Scottish government is responsible for the day to day running of it's country (it's local area). Westminster remains in control of the long term and international decisions of Scotland.

Local government in the UK is usually made in reference to city Councils. I think you've made a mistake in saying that the sovereign government runs the every day situations of the country. It is the local governments who do this, the sovereign government makes large scale decisions which are implemented over relatively large periods of time.
