Single-Slot GTX-580?

I am about to pull the trigger on 4 GTX-580 SuperClocked versions for my system.

Although my MoBo has 7 PCI-e x16 slots (Asus P6T7 WS), the GTX-580 is an obese card that takes up two slots no-thanks to it's heatsink/cooler/fan.

I have a small SATA card for two of my HDDs since all six SATA ports are used on my MoBo (2x SSDs (OS), 2 HDDs, 2 Optical drives) as well as the Creative Titanium HD sound card. That's taking up two slots and my current GTX-295 is hogging up two slots as well.

My entire system is air-cooled and although the single-slot GTX-580 Hydro Copper 2 (http://www.evga.com/products/morein...-ar&family=geforce%20500 series family&sw) gives me a hard-on, they are for water-cooled systems, unfortunately! 🙁 They are a work of art though and I would get them in a heart beat if my system was water-cooled!

And so, do you guys know of a solution to this? I want air-cooled single-slot GTX-580 SuperClocked; well, I want four of them! 😀

HELP!

Come back in 3-4 years after 2 process shrinks.

Otherwise, you can't have nice things. Sorry about that.

Since money is obviously no object you might as well pay someone to set up a watercooled system for you if you aren't comfortable doing it yourself.

Maybe you'll get lucky and the often alluded to dual GF110 card will make an appearance. That's the only likely way you'll get 4x gtx580 (or there about) in 4 slots.

If the (standard) two-slot cards are obese, what do you call super-clocked cards with extra large air coolers that require three slots?!

What could you possibly need 4 GTX 580s for if you don't know that the only way to get them single slot is to get waterblocked cards.....

The SuperClocked versions are THREE SLOTS? Are you serious? They sure don't look like they are in the pictures! Can someone confirm this?

I believe that wast just a single model designed by ASUS with a special cooler. They are usually a 2 slot solution. OP: If you really are building this system than money must not be an object. Why not just go with water cooling now?

Is it ever about 'need'? Do you mean, "why do you want 4?"

Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZPG0KON3pU

Crazy.

LOL! Exactly!

And, I've seen that video; my setup is somewhat similar. I have the Mountain Mods Ascension case in Black Wrinkle powder-coat! Except, I don't have an SR-2 or the Xeon 5680s. LOL.. And I don't care about them... if I did do watercooling, I would definitely grab the Hydro Copper 2s.. 4 of them in SLI.. that alone is $2800 but it would be worth it just for the looks and performance! 😀

Here's 3 of them in SLI: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9zI1nyv9Dk

Yea, you're right about the 2-slots. And, I was talking about the EVGA SuperClocked: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-590-_-Product

Hmm.. I just revamped my system.. new case, 17 fans, new cpu cooler, new sound card, new monitor... and I'm planning to get the i7 990X and 4 GTX-580s in SLI.

Water-cooling will involve radiators, reservoirs, tubing, etc. etc. and I've never done that before... I might do that for my next build (IvyBridge) in late 2011 or early 2012.

Some water cooling setups are brilliant and I want the best of the best.. I don't even know where to start with water-cooling.. and the thought of liquid spilling out on the components makes me cringe.

I'm trying to figure out just how complicated it'd be to put my new build under water and get at least one of these cards in Germany, hah. They are on 'preorder only' right now on a local site...here's hoping. Nice video.

GTX 580 only supports 3-way SLI.

Isn't there a difference here between what Nvidia officially supports and "what works"? I've seen a number of benchmarks with 4 way 580 SLI, it'd be rather amusing if the 4th card contributed nothing. In the benchmarks it shows GPU usage and gpu core temperature increases on the 4th card as well.

17 fans? Is that before counting CPU HSF and 4x graphics card fans?
LOL. Now you have another good reason to go with a water loop.

Why no learn how to do water cooling now OP? Now is as good a time as any, and you have a system there that's pretty much designed for it.

If your actually being serious in this thread, I would have someone build you a cascade phase change. Its a better use of money than 17 fans. However, I'm calling shens on this thread.

What game at what resolution would someone need dual i7's and quad gtx580's?

dual i7s? In both those videos, they are using EVGA SR-2 and Xeon 5680s overclocked! The SR-2 cannot use i7s; if they did, I would get it and put two 980X chips on there!

And, if you have 3 30" monitors (7680x1200), playing BC2 or BLOPS/Crysis etc. maxed out will definitely use the quad GTX-580s.

If you can build me a top of the line water-cooling set up, I will pay you $100 to do everything including all the wire management etc.

And, what's with the "shens"??

Here's my rig: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2120996&highlight=

I've added a Dell U3011 since then as well as the Creative SoundBlaster Titanium HD sound card.

My CPU (i7 950) is now perfect at 4.2GHz @ 1.28V (V-Core)! 😀 The 17 fans (7 Scythe Ultra Kaze, 3 Delta (5200RPM), 6 Xigmatek LED 120mm, and 1 Noctua 120mm) do help! My load temps in OCCT never passed 70C on the hottest core!

Calling "shens" on that one too?
