I'm trying to get ready to be able to play Diablo 3 at 1920x1080, CPU E8500, 4gb DDR2 Ram, Win7 x64 Pro. I don't really do any other gaming on this PC (this is so the wife and I can hit the dungeons together). :)

Only have a 430W power supply:

Currently have an old 3850, and I can unfortunately only fit a single slot video card - possible a short dual slot since the case is not that large.

Anyways, I was thinking of going to a 4850 as I'd like to keep costs down, but let me know if there are any other recommendations. I also heard some talk about the 4000 series not being supported in Win 8, or was that just some specific drivers?

first get a slightly higher wattage PSU, I mean that will give you more gcard choices not to mention more security when running games. i saw a hd4870 onsale for 55 on newegg not long ago, get a 4850/70 off ebay should be a great bargain.

Oh yeah, forgot to say I've only got a 430W power supply.

If you've got a 430W, then stick with the 6770. It consumes less than the 48xx series by a decent amount, ignore the '500w' recommended for the 5770/6770, that's just them being extra safe. Your whole system should be pulling ~210w from the wall during gaming, give or take 15% depending on how much load.

They like to recommend 500w power supplies because a lot of cheap PSUs and PSU/Case combos come with crappy power supplies that are not really labeled correctly.

To add to all of this, Blizzard shoots to have their games run quite well even on relatively weak hardware, so I don't expect Diablo 3 to be significantly demanding to the point where anything faster than a 5750 would even be noticable. They could surprise us, but judging by the beta that seems to be the case.

If you find a good deal on a 4850/4870 then that's worth considering, but the 4870 and especially the 4890 are hotter, louder, and more power hungry.

What brand is said 430w PSU?

I run a 6850 on a 430w PSU with no problems. In fact, paired with an i3-2100, I don't even pull 180w from the wall playing BF3...

That will EASILY power any single-slot graphics card... 6850/6870 is no problem

I'm trying to get ready to be able to play Diablo 3

upgrading months in advance is pointless. The selection will be better and prices lower when diablo 3 actually comes out. Furthermore you will know actual performance...
If you must play diablo3 on max everything on its release day, then at least wait until 1 week before its out and then come back and ask the same question

It's probably best to wait until there's a firm release date for Diablo 3 as by then we may have 7770 cards available.

Right now, a 5770/6770 would be the best choice.
