FEAR 1 had better AI. Far Cry 1 was decent as well. Enemies actually take cover and occasionally get confused in the middle of tense combat, just like real life.

Was just playing playing CS Global Offensive with bots, and on higher settings they are quite challenging. Not cheating, like most other games.

Oh, and the SWAT series has good AI for your team, as well as the Rainbow Six games. But once in a great while they wig out and everybody just stands there. Its a rare event though.

FEAR. the first one.

and some other game i totally forgot the name of, which was horrible anyway. but it had great AI.

also (as far as i know) the Killzone series should be strong in that department. the only game i played was the first, but it was clear the were focusing on that, so i assume they must have gotten better.

The best AI I have seen in an FPS is way back in Descent 3, at the higher difficulties. Not only does each enemy have its own distinctive behavior, but the gameplay is designed in a way that allows the AI to stand out in combat. In many modern FPSs with very linear maps and hitscan weapons, even if the AI is good you would never know it just because of how the combat mechanics work.

Sometimes I loved the stupid AI from Quake. So yeah put FEAR #1 and QUAKE RPBOT at the bottom.

Had tons of giggles telefragging RPBOTS, Teleport... lots of squishing sounds.... LOL!

  • Fear 1 (not Fear 2, the AI was worthless there).
  • Far Cry 1 (in the open maps the AI would definitely flank/retreat/take cover as needed).
  • Brothers in Arms series, especially squad-mates.
  • Stalker series.
  • No One Lives Forever 1.
  • Half-Life 1 marines.
  • Crysis 1.
  • Quake 3 bots.
  • Unreal 1 monsters, especially Skaarj.

Yep, all three games game had great AI. The robots exhibited distinct personalities and combat styles to take advantage of the 6 DoF terrain.
