Single MP performance?

I'm looking all over the web for reviews on using an Athlon MP in a single socket motherboard. All I can find is a description that the Athlon XP is basically the same as the Athlon MP only without the multiprocessor capabilities enabled. That's not good enough! I want to see benchmarks comparing the performance between an MP and an equivilent XP! Can anybody point me in the right direction, or how can I get a request to the AnandTech gurus?

The reason you won't find benchmarks for the MP when used as a single processor is because they're not targeted for those platforms. Not only that, but they should bench exactly the same as an equivalently clocked XP chip. There is no difference to the core that would make them run faster. It's the same cache size, same TLB, same FSB etc. The only thing that makes the MP stand out is that it comes unlocked, and is certified for MP systems.
 
As ST4RCUTTER said, the only difference between the XP and the MP is the MP is unlocked, the XP you have to unlock yourself. All Socket A AMD CPU's can run in dual systems, from the Duron to the Thunderbird to the Palamino. The MP simply comes with AMD's "We say it can," stamp of approval. Testing one MP processor will yield EXACTLY the same results as one XP processor.

So there you have it.

The fact that it can be unlocked is very useful for those who do not want to buy soldering irons, but otherwise get an XP.

True, but that has nothing to do with the processor. That's implemented by the motherboard, and it won't affect benchmarks.
 
According to THIS SITE, when you try to run two AthlonXP's on a 760MPX Board you get this message --> AMD XP CPU detected - forcing single CPU mode

According to ASUS, it was imposed by AMD.

Supports up to 2 socket A Athlon MP processors, supports single socket A Athlon XP/ Athlon/ Duron processor.
 
Asus is stating that to keep AMD off their backs. The Tyan boards shipped with a big warning letter in them saying you "MUST use an MP processor" and we all know that XP/TBird/Duron's work fine.

That one site is the only place that is claiming to get that error message. A few others sites are starting to report that they have XP's working fine in MPX boards.

No one reputable has yet to post a thumbs up or thumbs down yet.

As of now, everything is just rumor.
