Single mom discovers the secret to whiter teeth!

AdamK47

I see these banner ads all the time and it makes me laugh every time I read it. It's so absurd. Are single mothers this focused on their "single motherdom" that they are so easily targeted by these hilarious banner ads?

I HATE that ad. The one I saw was so stupid: "Why Pay Outrageous Dental Costs" something something "..discovered by a single mom!"

edit = Same with the "invented by a grade school teacher" for some orange chewable medicine.

Who wouldn't want something discovered by a single mom? I mean... she's a single mom. It explains everything.

Actually yes, thats the number 1 tip in advertising: Get an emotional connection with your customers.
Thats true for damn near every ad anywhere these days. Just pay close attention to the TV you watch and the banner ads you see.

don't think it was the FDA but a class action lawsuit.

I have a freebie that any computer hardware manufacturer can use...

"Single computer nerd discovers the secret to faster frame rates!"

Boom, instant marketing gold! If any hardware maker is reading this, I only charge $10,000 for each of these advertisement gold mines.

The ads are dumb, but the guys behind them are making tens of millions of dollars.

I always assumed it was just a poor application of a pity angle that single mom's drop at every available opportunity. My fat bitch neighbor once said after I complained about her load music, "I'm a single mom, not that that matters." Then what the fuck did you bring it up for?! You're damn right it does not matter, no one gives a fuck. And you aren't even special, there's millions of "single moms". And they all have their sob story.

"Discovered by single dog owner."

Again, I don't think people understand the amount of money that is at stake. Those acai berry fake blogs about single mothers literally made over $100 million dollars for the guys who ran them.

The teeth whiteners aren't far behind.

Or that goddamn "you deserve blah blah useless crap" tactic.

All kinds of stupid products out there made for stupid people, sold by people who have no qualms about separating fools from their money through stupid advertising.

Because the assumption is that single mom's don't have much money so they have to find non-traditional & inexpensive means to solve problems. Plus it relates to all the single mom's in the same financial condition. Sounds like good marketing to me.

By saying a single mom invented it there is the connotation that the product will be simple, cheap, and somehow work.
