after 3 decades of single-knotting, i got sick of my shoelaces coming untied and defected to the double-knot camp.

it is marvelous! instead of my shoes coming untied several times a day, they stay strong all day long.

it takes more work but i think the results are worth it. but i am interested to hear what ATOT thinks.

Single because I typically get food on my shoes and laces. After a long day with dried on sauces over the laces, I can't imagine trying to untie a double knot.

Single bow on my normal shoes, and a surgeons knot on my combat boots.

as someone who constantly has to tie my boots all day long. I'm going over to the double-knot camp after reading this thread. I totally forgot about the double-knot.

Double for me but I can slip most laces shoes on anyway. I might tie a shoe once every 4 months or so.

My wife ties her shoes like this:

Depends on the shoe...and the laces. MOST of the time, a single knot suffices, but my last pair of New Balance shoes had "slippery" laces that came untied...and required double knots.
My SAS "tennies" have velcro closures aah.gif, but my "new" New Balance tennies have normal laces that stay tied like they should.
Work boots USUALLY get double knotted just because.

Check this out...

I was looking for an image of the instruction card that comes with some new boots, and ran across this. I've never tried it, but I'll be doing that tomorrow. If it holds up, it looks like a quick and easy way to secure boots.

Both, depends on the shoe/laces. If a pair of shoes come untied a lot I double knot them - otherwise I stick with a single knot.

Since discovering that I do my best to proselytize its virtues. It just does not come undone unless you want it to, in which case it comes apart just as easily as any traditional single knot.

As mentioned at the bottom of that page it excels with round laces that are otherwise a nightmare to keep tied but it works with everything.

Double but only because the laces wont stay tied for more than 20minutes with only a single knot.

Normally single knot but I have on occasion with certain pairs of shoes double knotted them at times if the laces had a tendancy to come undone.

Single knot for tennis shoes, pull ons or slip ons for work. I just recently bought a pair of cowboy boots. My goodness they're comfortable. I can wear them to the office, and if for some reason I need to go out in the field, I don't have to worry about changing shoes anymore.

Double for everything. Two reasons - first I've done athletics forever (running in particular) and you didn't want to stop in the middle of competition to tie your shoes. So it's just natural to do it for every shoe.

Second, I have super narrow feet and I have to pull the laces pretty tight to get a snug fit. Double knot to use up some of the extra lace.
