Single channel P4 chipset?

Hello,

I am trying to help a friend upgrade the memory in his machine.

Not sure what chipset he has, but he has 2 DIMM slots with a single 256MB DIMM in one of them.

Is there such a thing as a single chan DDR chipset for the P4?

If it's a dual chan board, I'll drop in 2x 512MB, but if its only one channel, a single 1GB DIMM would be the better option.

There WERE single channel DDR chipsets for the P4. They suck. More likely it'sa dual channel chipset running in single channel mode. Run CPU-Z and find out what chipset and we can tell you what it supports.
