single 7900gtx or dual 7900gt cards in SLI?

Just curious, what would offer better performance - a single 7900gtx card or two 7900gt cards in SLI? It seems as though the 7900gtx cards always take up two card slots, so if you're building a Shuttle system they're not the best route to go if you want SLI. Thoughts?

I have no figures, but from the general SLI concensus it seems that in some games you'll find better performance with SLI and in others very little gain. Personally, I'd go with the gtx (should require less power, will be quieter, and will offer better performance in some instances).

the SLI configuration has a significant lead against the single 7900gtx (link to benchmarks) but unless you play at higher resolutions, there's no need for the 7900GTs. anything up to 16x12 resolution the 7900gtx can handle fine

i'd go with the 7900gtx. less trouble. less driver problems. less heat (esp in shuttle). less noise. less rma's. and same performance almost
