Also not all movies released in Widescreen on DVD are the true Widescreen print. The recent Lord of War DVD is cropped. Its OAR is 2.35:1, but the Widescreen DVD is 1.78:1. I've seen a few screenshots of the 2.35:1 image and the 1.78:1 DVD image and it is cropped from its OAR. I hope this isn't a new standard making all the Widescreen versions fit Widescreen TVs.

Are you sure it was a DVD? All the LOTR DVDs that I have seen are 2:35:1.

Yeah LOTR is 2.35:1, but Lord of War (Nick Cage movie) was cropped.

Actually many films today aren't filmed as widescreen but are cropped after filming.

are you saying that movies are filmed full screen and then cut to be fitted widescreen??

Yes I am

Then why people doesnt like full screen format??? i just dont get it.When you watch a full screen movie, you see everything then no???

Because 4:3 movies ARE NOT the original recording. They are crops of the widescreen.
