Blah blah blah we all know I hate Bush...blah blah blah

Hey, you're still a i love you!

Are we really accepting this as an insult now? Its one thing to call another person an a$$hole or calling another persons post BS but to allow outright gay slurs I find rather disturbing.

The former appears to be a joke, although I word itself is somewhat distasteful, I don't believe it was intended as a serious personal insult against loki8481. However, since it IS a pretty nasty slur against gay people, I'll take it up with my fellow mods and see what we think about that being within the rules here.

The second, however, is clearly a violation of the personal attack rules and has been dealt with appropriately...thanks for the heads up.

Although it was meant as a joke, the poster of the former was immediately and strongly warned not to repeat his actions by pm.

He truly didn't know that his target was actually gay. When he found out, he apologized directly and unambiguously in that very same thread, saying:

I really didn't know that you were a gentleman of a certain persuasion. Boy, is there egg on MY face.

So, no, OP, using the word as a hurtful and outright slur directed at another poster's personal sexual orientation won't fly here.

But . . . since the word, especially in its "ghey" variation, has taken on the decidedly different meaning of "weak" or "lame", and since saying something like "Stop fagging up the thread" can also mean "stop being needlessly flamboyant", there will always be a large "grey" area of usage wherein context and intent will have to be somehow "divined" by the mod on the beat at the time.

You are always welcome to bring any example you think crosses the line to our attention, and we will do our best to respond constructively.

IMHO the word f*g should be treated just as the word n*gger is. Both are slurs and should not be tolerated in any fashion.

The rules were relaxed and now permit it.
The members asked for it, they got it.

I'm not too keen you edited my quote that way...

The n-bomb has never been permitted since the rule change. I've never seen a mod let that one pass unnoticed.

Why is f*g permitted then? I don't see how different it is.

Because "i love you" is an actual word, not just slang.

If it was being used as an actual word (like as a cigarette/drudge) I wouldn't take offense - however its clear its not being used in that way in the threads I posted. It is being thrown around in a way it can be just as derogatory a term as n* or any other nationality term. I know its also used in online games as a term of goofing off but we all know the roots of it.
It is being used as a slang term and you have to be kidding if you think otherwise.

I'm not defending the usage of the word nor the context. Just offering an explanation as to why it may/may not be fully censored.
