PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — The recent weather has been so warm that groundhogs like Phil may wake up earlier this winter. The same goes for deer, skunks and raccoons.
Those are some of the findings from a study at Cornell University.
Everyone, even our pets, wants to know what happened to winter?
“We have lived in multiple states; so, each state has some different factors to consider, especially the time of the year you can get ticks,” said Jaclyn Macedonia, of the North Hills. “Fleas, especially with a new puppy; we haven’t had a new puppy for seven years, so we are learning things all over again.”

lolwat? We have an entire herd of deer walk accross our property every night. And I smell skunks around all the time, so I don't think they are hibernating either.

"Animals that hibernate include bats, some species of ground squirrels and other rodents, mouse lemurs, the West European Hedgehog and other insectivores, monotremes and marsupials."

The term hibernation is often used to describe any state of winter dormancy, and it is sometimes applied to bears, shrews, deer mice, and other animals that are inactive in winter. But the dormancy experienced by these animals differs from hibernation.

Hibernation is often used to describe any state of winter dormancy. But some deers and bears are actually do as what they called Torpor. Some at day some at night. Daily is called daily Torpor.

Scientists find it difficult to establish clear cut boundaries between hibernation and other types of dormancy. Animals, like poorwills, some bats, and a few rodents, can enter either hibernation or what appears to be daily torpor.
