I honestly sort of have this same question and my fear is
What if NK decides to launch (which is 99% negative chance) will we have to shoot it out of the sky and then it will explode in midair?

we can pretty much say our prayers if it ever comes to that, our technology is still not that impressive considering the billions and billions we throw at national defense research. i think recently there was a test for a prototype missile interceptor and it failed miserably.

That's all fine and well if you want to ignore all the previous test successes. The missle defense system is still in development. You are going to have failures. Having failures is part of developing anything successfully.

do i have any reason to be worried about a bomb being dropped on california? :Q

but how long do you think it will take until the accuracy is satisfactory? satisfactory being 98%+.

Unfortunately, this could happen.
Back in the day, North Korea knew it would be obliterated if it nuked anybody.
Now, North Korea knows it can nuke us and the first thing we'll say is "ok, let's have a meeting, and discuss the ramifications of retaliation. we must think of the north korean civilians and all the poor innocent blah blah blah".
They will say these things after millions of innocent californians die.

well, i just read something recently that north korea's bombs have the ability to reach the west coast.. 😛
I too live in california, and everytime i see stuff about north korea, i get more and more scared .. I live in Los Angeles, which I would think would be a prime target ..
Wanna move to Wyoming with me? 🙂
A number of years anyway 🙂but how long do you think it will take until the accuracy is satisfactory? satisfactory being 98%+.
They would, but I think he was just being facetious 🙂 I would guess that the US has already got the coordinates to any likely north korean launch sites and they'd be the first hit.Highly doubtful. If they launched a nuke, I am totally assured that they would get nuked in retaliation, by any president.

unless they have some sort of device that would trigger the nuke if the housing started to desintegrate (which would be simply stupid) then no.
It would, but nothing compared to a nuclear explosion. Unfortunately no heat seeking missile can catch an ICBM. They go like 10+ times the speed of sound. In fact I think many explosions - if you were to trigger it directly behind an ICBM - wouldn't even take the ICBM out because the explosive shrapnel doesn't move fast enough to hit it. Taking out ICBMs is very difficult due to their speed, so if you can't have something hit them from the front (like a bullet) you need to trigger an explosion in front so that the ICBM flies into it.Originally posted by: dahunan

I was thinking about that when I wrote this....
We can shoot it out of the sky with a heat seeking missle launched from a jet based in South Korea..
Even though it most likely will not detonate will the nuclear material that gets released cause problems?
