THE LAW IS THE LAW

So if the US government determines that it is against the law for the words "under God" to be on our money, then, so be it.

And if that same government decides that the "Ten Commandments" are not to be used in or on a government installation, then, so be it.

And since they already have prohibited any prayer in the schools, on which they deem their authority, then so be it.

I say, "so be it," because I would like to be a law abiding US citizen.

I say, "so be it," because I would like to think that smarter people than I are in positions to make good decisions.

I would like to think that those people have the American Publics' best interests at heart.

BUT, YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE I'D LIKE?

Since we can't pray to God, can't Trust in God and cannot Post His Commandments in Government buildings, I don't believe the Government and it's employees should participate in the Easter and Christmas celebrations which honor the God that our government is eliminating from many facets of American life.

I'd like my mail delivered on Christmas, Good Friday, Thanksgiving & Easter.
After all, it's just another day.

I'd like the US Supreme Court to be in session on Christmas, Good Friday, Thanksgiving & Easter as well as Sundays. After all, it's just another day.

I'd like the Senate and the House of Representatives to not have to worry about getting home for the "Christmas Break."
After all ~ it's just another day.

I'm thinking that a lot of my taxpayer dollars could be saved, if all government offices & services would work on Christmas, Good Friday & Easter.

It shouldn't cost any overtime since those would be just like any other day of the week to a government that is trying to be "politically correct".

In fact.... I think that our government should work on Sundays (initially set aside for worshiping God...) because, after all, our government says that it should be just another day....

What do you all think???? If this idea gets to enough people, maybe our elected officials will stop giving in to the minority opinions and begin, once again, to represent the 'majority' of ALL of the American people. SO BE IT...........

Your post simply reminds me of what a lightweight forum OT is.

Good idea. We can just replace them by generic ones, like the first monday of august here (Simcoe day? Civic holiday? few people know, fewer care). While're at it, we can add a few more on there. Here in canada we need one in June. Currently, there is no national holiday between Victoria Day (3rd monday of May) and Canada Day (July 1st). 2nd Monday of June sounds mighty fine.

If you think of the governemnt not solely as a legislative entity but also as a big corporation that employs lots of people. It really has to bend to their wishes to spend time with their families during religiously stated days.

I'm sure no one is proposing that because the US government insulted the delicate sensibilities of the righteous Christians by barring any religion from its operation, that it should be made to suffer the hell and brimestone of working through major holidays.

In seriousness though, if the government works everyday, so will private enterprise to compete.

The problem is that government employees are entitled to observe their religion's holiday. Since the majority of the employees do celebrate the same religious holidays, it's impractical and unfair to the minority to force them to cover for the majority.
In the limited cases where pubilc interest trumps the individual's right to practice(emergency services, military, etc.) they do work on holidays.

As for sunday, I think the 5-day work week/2-day weekend is as much a societal construct now as anything. It's therefore reasonable to follow the same work week. As to why the USPS delivers on saturday and not sunday

I like that analysis. Just another big company from which we contract services, from roads and street lights to lawmaking and defense. Or like the phone company.

I fired my phone company a while back. After years of lousy service, it was a good moment.

Now, if I can just fire this lousy Halliburton subsidiary from which I contract government services!

Unfortunately, it is a monopoly. Perhaps the government should an start anti-trust case against itself

Who says you can't. The whole controversy is to keep religion out gov't doctrine. Nothing more. If you want to preach about your religion on gov't property, you should be able to, but leaving a permanent fixture should be prohibited. If you want to say 'under God' in the pledge so be it (no pun intended). The whole argument is about OFFICIAL doctrine.

The rest of the post I agree with. The gov't should be fully functional 24/7/365. That doesn't mean people can't take time off for religious observance. Sure the vast majority will take certain times off concurrently, thus, rendering many services absent at certain times. However, these observances SHOULD NOT be official leaves of absenses, where everyone is expected to take time off.

The government frowns on competition.
See: Civil War
That's the most obscene anti-competitive practice I've ever seen.
