• We should now be fully online following an overnight outage. Apologies for any inconvenience, we do not expect there to be any further issues.

Since Obama cannot run again, he should step it up a notch or two.

What he should do is immediately suspend pay and benefits for all of Congress. No work, no pay.

Obama has served his purpose. He borrowed trillions and gave it to wall street, and ripped off the average american by roughly 10% of his wealth. (Median real income down 7%, roughly 10% below historical average) He has implemented a grossly unconstitutional tax on the young to force them to pay the health care cartel since the young and healthy do not pay their "fair share". He has undone 50 years of civil rights movement and disgraced black america for decades. The guy has screwed over this country so bad that we could see race riots worse than the 1960s. People arent even feeling the damage yet because the crackhead spending binge we been on has temporarily masked the damage. But when the crack wears off people are gonna be frickin irate.

A+ rant would read again. When can I expect some race riots worse than the 1960s?

It's just trading an economic crisis for a constitutional crisis.

By law, the president must spend the money, but by law, he can't exceed the debt ceiling. He's being told to do two mutually exclusive things. There is an argument to be made that Under Section 4 of the 14th Amendment (validity of public debt), that the President can ignore the debt ceiling.

You know, ever since Obama began his campaign to run for the presidency, all I've been hearing about him is how he was going to ruin the nation, how he was going to collapse the economy, how the rich were going to leave the country in droves due to Obama instituting communist ideology and taxing the rich into the ranks of the poor, how his secret muslim religious background would spread Islam throughout the nation and on and on and on.

These horrific predictions and prophecies of doom and disasters of biblical proportions once Obama took office have, as far as the eye can see, been nothing more than a campaign of spreading fear and hatred of the man, with all of those "predictions" amounting to......absolutely nothing.

Instead, we have an economy that is steadily improving, the rich are patting *Bush Lite* Obama on the head and telling him what a good boy he is for letting them continue their takeover of the government, the middle class and the poor are finally thrown a bone of hope in the way of receiving affordable health care, Bin Laden is dead, the UAV's are spreading panic amongst the terrorists who use the innocent as a shield and on and on and on. And all of this is happening whilst the Repub leadership is attempting to drag Obama into the gutters to fight him where they have made a wretched home for themselves.

The Repubs have circled their wagons, are shooting their moderates en masse to get rid of those traitors and to purify their lineage so as to better fight off the fearful and horrific change that they have chosen Obama to represent.

And here we all are, suffering miserably under the turmoil that the Repub Party is experiencing, waiting for them to sort out their differences so we as a nation can again experience the rising tide that floats all boats.

Business and big labor.

But if we want to talk realistically, he couldn't postpone the individual mandate because the program needs money rolling in. He helped out his business buddies, he helped out big labor (but gave them an unplanned butt fucking in the process) he helped out highly paid government employees that will continue to receive subsidies but without those young healthy people paying into the system it would have collapsed within a year. That's the reason he couldn't let the tax on medical devices go too. Much of that work will now continue to go overseas but hey, we've already put a ton of people out work and a ton of people have transitioned from full time work to part time. What's a few more with a program with intentions as good as this one?

So with all the favors that have been granted thus far by our one person government, (Congress was not involved in these grants of delay) the juggling act is going to get very intense. The program is going to have to be kept alive with much less funding than had been planned. The top question asked at healthcare.gov is how to avoid the penalty for not getting Democare. I imagine there are a lot of folks in DC with a bad case of the runs today. Young people don't want it because they can't afford it (news to the .gov but not the rest of us) and they want to not only not get involved, they don't even want to have to pay the penalty. We're about to see an explosion of Amish in the nation I tell ya. (Muslims too.)

He may not be the smartest guy when it comes to practical matters but politically, he's right up there. As much as he'd like to let loose the dogs of political war, he knows there are elections coming up. Personally, I'd like to see him really go to town and let his socialist freak flag fly because I'm convinced we're in a tailspin for which there is no pulling out. The sooner we get it over the sooner we start over. But the misery will increase until the bottom falls out of everything and it will be that much harder to put humpty dumpty together.

Do you get your news from the Daily Show? The fed is putting $85 BILLION into the economy every month. The economy is flat... The government has to borrow money to pay its current obligations.

Debt service payments are based on the size of the national debt.... The U.S. Has been extremely fortunate that interest rates on this debt is low. What do you think will happen to our economy if these interest rates on our debt increase just a little?

Go for it. Basically the whole of Obama's presidency has been reduced to passing a fatally flawed Obamacare and some small-ball stimulus bills. Defending those and fighting debt ceiling battles and the like have taken up all the oxygen in the room for the last 5 years, and everything else he's supported has crashed and burned (gun control, immigration reform, etc.). In all, his will have been one of the very least consequential presidencies in the last 100 years. And you want him to continue expending his political capital on things like $1 trillion coins. Have at it, amigo. Better that than anything someone gives a shit about.

Perhaps one of the most delusional rants I've ever read. It's what happens when organic brain deficiency meets well formulated propaganda.

I've seen videos that were just as delusional, unfortunately. I think you should team up with this guy-

Maybe if you live in a wackjob echo chamber.

Passing the first healthcare bill in 100 years, even if it IS the Republican plan.
Allowing openly gay people in the military.
Taking some steps to wind down Iraq.
Stopped Gaddafi.
Authorized kill of Bin Laden.
Released new fuel efficiency standards in 2011 that will nearly double the fuel economy for cars and trucks by 2025.
With funds from stimulus, started $4.35 billion program of competitive grants to encourage and reward states for education reform.
Signed Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act in 2009, giving women who are paid less than men for the same work the right to sue their employers after they find out about the discrimination, even if that discrimination happened years ago. Under previous law, as interpreted by the Supreme Court in Ledbetter v. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., the statute of limitations on such suits ran out 180 days after the alleged discrimination occurred, even if the victims never knew about it.
In 2011, signed FDA Food Safety Modernization Act, which boosts the Food and Drug Administration’s budget by $1.4 billion and expands its regulatory responsibilities to include increasing number of food inspections, issuing direct food recalls, and reviewing the current food safety practices of countries importing products into America.
Could you name even three major accomplishments from Bush's 8 years?
Signed the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (2009). Nine years in the making and long resisted by the tobacco industry, the law mandates that tobacco manufacturers disclose all ingredients, obtain FDA approval for new tobacco products, and expand the size and prominence of cigarette warning labels, and bans the sale of misleadingly labeled “light” cigarette brands and tobacco sponsorship of entertainment events.
Passed Fair Sentencing Act: Signed 2010 legislation that reduces sentencing disparity between crack versus powder cocaine possessionfrom100 to1 to 18 to1.
As part of the 2009 stimulus, invested $90 billion, more than any previous administration, in research on smart grids, energy efficiency, electric cars, renewable electricity generation, cleaner coal, and biofuels.
Signed 2009 Children’s Health Insurance Authorization Act, which allows the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) to cover health care for 4 million more children, paid for by a tax increase on tobacco products.
In 2009, eliminated the Bush-era restrictions on embryonic stem cell research, which shows promise in treating spinal injuries, among many other areas.
In 2009, signed Claims Resolution Act, which provided $4.6 billion in funding for a legal settlement with black and Native American farmers who the government cheated out of loans and natural resource royalties in years past.
Created the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau

You could SAY "fatally flawed," but it won't magically make it reality, no matter HOW bad you wish it were.

I'll just leave this here as a counterpoint-

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/06/29/1219935/-Obama-s-50-Greatest-Progressive-Accomplishments

It's just as far in the other direction as your own rant.

I don't think that coin seigniorage will happen. Not that it shouldn't, it's actually what MMT is really all about, but it cuts out the wealthy & the banks, denies them their cut off the top. It could actually be used to pay off the publicly held national debt tomorrow, not something I advocate, either. Obama has been particularly mindful of the prerogatives of the great Job Creators, despite raving to the contrary, one of which is investment in the safest securities in the world, US Govt Bonds. They love 'em, but they wish the yield were better, so this little contrived crisis over the debt ceiling might get them a little bump.

Figure it out. They're the only possible winners.

Ah yes, accomplishments like "Began Asia Pivot” and "Created Recovery.gov" are indeed remarkable, and place him squarely among the giants of history. Move over Washington and Lincoln, your feats pale in comparison.

And yet, even as the Repubs in the legislature are in lockstep fashion either delaying and/or obstructing anything and everything Obama and the Dems are attempting to legislate into law, we have these same politicians and their constituents complaining how Obama is so ineffective at his job.

That's some really funny irony shit right there.

What he should do is immediately suspend pay and benefits for all of Congress. No work, no pay.

The Twenty-seventh Amendment (Amendment XXVII) prohibits any law that increases or decreases the salary of members of the Congress from taking effect until the start of the next set of terms of office for Representatives. It is the most recent amendment to the United States Constitution. It was submitted to the states for ratification in 1789 and was adopted, over 200 years later, in 1992.

Well, I guess Obama really is stepping it up a notch or two. He's abandoned his weak-kneed attempts at giving much to get very little, hoisted his trousers up around his neck line and stood his ground in defending the ACA against the Repub's attacks to dismantle it.

Obama's timing and maneuvering around this confrontation, especially Obama's relying on the Repub's myopic, manic and resolute mission to destroy him to bring the spotlight on the Repubs having to kowtow to their far right wing Tea Party masters for marching orders is, well, clever at the least.

The more this fact soaks in, the more isolated the Party becomes, which gives Obama even more leverage when exploiting this fatalistic flaw that the Repubs had dealt themselves the day they claimed the Tea Party as their own long lost step children.

Too, Obama also the luxurious option of simply stepping back and watching the Repub Party infighting implode in spectacular fashion.
