And every one seems to think soon humans will be able to edit genes so that deffective people like those that jumped unxpurg8d's son, and the idiot who killed 3 with his cell phone, will soon be weeded out, What should we do to those that won't submit to manipulation of genes, so that we can keep our stock healthy?

I mean without manipulating gene's with 6 billion people. Maybe govenment programs encouraging foreign travel, and helping poorer nations, and helping to "basically" at a low level to "STIR" the gene pool. Is that A good idea? I think it would benefit mankind if we encourage that, even before "WORLD PEACE" is acchieved. And once its made easier, interstellar colonization too, even a little on the moon. dunno, what's your thoughts?

People still won't love each other:(.

I don't think these "gene manipulations" are going to change any part of the human nature with regards to personalities, which are the lowly qualities in the examples you gave. People will always be jerks and morons, no matter how perfect their bodies are. Perhaps even more so, because if a person had a body that never ached, they would never know how to relate to people who need compassion. It's funny how you see the solution to the world's problems solved by The Great America sending our citizens to breed with the rest of the nations, thereby attempting to bring them up to our level. America the Beautiful:)....

I believe most of the gene science is directed at eradication of physical disease.

The problems we face as a society have nothing to do with the gene pool (although I know a few people who shouldn't breed) it comes down to taking responsibility for ones acitons. Some people don't give a rats a$$ who they hurt, destroy, mame, etc.. But once caught, the attitude becomes: "Hey, it's not my fault! I ate too many Twinkies when I was a kid and all that sugar made me kill all those people!" Jeese, I hate that line of rationalzation! And of course some #&%@ snake of a lawer will defend this looser.

yeah, but maybe if we saw how how bad other countries have it, health wise, food wise, level of civilizations they have (i.e. trash pickup) and yet how good some of the people are, i.e. smart's, looks, skills, maybe we wouldn't be such pigs. We need a lot better culture, MiCky'ds, coke, disney, mtv, baseball, SUV's and "a computer in every class room"but gun in every other locker; I am not proud of.

you cannot "make" ppl by recombining genes....

this is just commercial thinking---not real science

You are bluring the nature vs. nurture arguement. Altering behavior through gene treatment at the time of conception may have some influence in the way a person behaves/acts in their adult life, but it is by no means THE SOLE deciding factor in how a person acts.

You can probably control genetic defects such as cerebral palsy or muscular dystrophy, but you can't single out an "aggressive" gene and expect that to prevent agression later on in a person's life.

Personally, I feel that once a child is born, how that child is raised and taught has just as much, if not more influence in how they act and interact with other people.

Genetic treatments can't replace good parents.

Everyone go watch the movie: "GATTACA".
Directly related to this topic. :)

Gene manipulation may create a "healthier" human.... but by no means better. Smarter, but not wiser. Wisdom comes from experience and temperance.
