Since Napster is no more, where is the best alternative?

I have not downloaded any music in about a year and would like to know where I should go to get some. I'm looking for something similar to Napster, not one of those rinkydink crappy 100 song sites i've seen around.

Also, i'm not looking to pay for it either. I have seen those pay per song sites and all I can say is they suck and I hope that is not the future of the net because if it is I think we will see the nets demise in a big way and very quickly. Anyhow, I just want some good free music w/o any limitations on it just like Napster was. Forgive me if I am a bit out of the loop. Yes, I do know that there are numerous programs similar to Napster but I cannot remember what they are and thought it would just be easier to ask my friends here at OT.

Thanks for any input. BTW, if you are wondering why I have not downloaded any music in a year I will say that I exagerated a bit. I have D/L some, just not much and never really searched too hard for a good site to go to for it. Thanks again.

for music, I would say that audiogalaxy is great. It has everything. It is a bit slow, but you can make a download queue and just leave it on. I would get adbuster(or whatever its called;)) and get rid of the spyware.

Edonkey2000. I like Morpheus for it's music selection, WinMX too. But if you can find it on the donkey you're gonna get it much faster. It hashes your shared files into umpteen parts so you can download from many different sources at one time as well as multiple people downloading from one fat pipe at the same time. If I have one download of say 50k/sec I expand the line and see I am downloading from & people at varying speeds to get to 50k/sec. I've had star wars1 from there for a month and a half now. Not a screener either.Definitely excellent for large files. Iso, I mean I say I'm quite satisfied with it. There are some tweaks which speed things uo tremendously. Link.

Napster has been "no more" for like 327623 years. Go get morpheus...don't get kazaa because i hear it has some spyware?

I only use WinMX when I can't find it on morpheus (very rare) because I hate it.

I use Morpheus all the time, but sometimes when I'm looking for obscure songs, I head on over to Audiogalaxy. ;)

At first, Gnutella had a fair selection of music, movies, etc, but it has gone downhill in a big way.

I haven't used any mp3 sharing programs since, I've just relied on good ol' IRC.

I wonder if there are any servers or nets devoted entirely to music?

<< Morpheus or WinMX are both good. >>

Between these two you can find anything. No joke, they make a great combo. Although Morpheus is better if you know exactly what you are after, winMX is far superior if you want every song by a band. It returns up to 5,000 results I believe, and therefore you can find anything.
