Dell to launch 'Lexus lineup' of PCs

"Defining the high-end is no longer the gearheads who focus on feeds and speeds. These are folks who get the possibilities of what the PC can do."
So let me get this straight--they're not trying to be faster than regular PCs?? Sorry AMD, guess you're just SOL with Dell!! :p

btw...what are 'feeds'??

How is Dell the Toyota of PC's? Please go drink some more and report back with your YAGT's.

I see this as a good thing for Dell. If they can cater well enough to the high-end gamer and user, they'll definitely take some business away from Falcon and Alienware. Thumbs up for Dell.

Who sells more cars than anyone else in the world?

Who sells more PCs than anyone else in the world?

Go do your homework and then buy me a drink.

*edit* LOL, I did my homework and got pwned. But I wouldn't dare compare Dell and GM (opposite ends of the 'success' spectrum.)

The service builds on the company's current Dell Support 3.0 client and allows a customer to authorize a Dell service representative to take control of a PC. George said customers could choose different levels of authorization.

"We have one that is similar to those found on those football replay shows where they circle the action on the screen," George said. "Our service centers in the U.S. and India can show you where to go and fix the problem yourself or you can have them do the work for you."

It's already doomed.

Toyotas aren't exactly the performace or luxury kings. They really are like an asian GM (except their cars are more reliable and they make a profit)

So owned--forgot Toyota is the more profitable automaker, but yes GM and Ford still pwn it in worldwide sales. But since Dell is successful and not struggling, I say they're more like Toyota! :p

just remember that with increased production comes decreased quality. atleast that what has happened to just about every single company ever.

Dell is more like the Hyundai of PC's. Toyota is a quality auto manufacturer. Please don't drag their good name through the mud by associating them with Dell. Thanks.

Toyota could overtake GM in 3 years. So they've been increasing production steadily over the past decade...where has their quality declined? But yeah I agree quality control is harder the more you produce.

LOL @ article

"I don't think those customers have a specific place to go," he said. "There is not a clear identity to go in that high-end direction. We are competing for those customers along with companies like HP, Sony, Apple, Alienware and those customers that basically build their own systems."

ROFLMAO

No, no Dell you are NOT competing with people's home-built systems. If someone knows how to build their own PC and where to get the parts online, they would NOT be considering a Dell PC at ANY POINT!

(Not saying Dell is all bad, mind you. Their LCDs are - price:performance wise - the best thing on the market at this point. It's just...the PCs! So much cheap hardware! So much crappy software!!)

The service builds on the company's current Dell Support 3.0 client and allows a customer to authorize a Dell service representative to take control of a PC. George said customers could choose different levels of authorization.

Hey, it's a good think Dell has the proprietary support software, too, that is IN NO WAY exactly the same thing as 'Remote Assistence' built into Windows XP!

Dell sells computers because they are fairly inexpensive and they are a huge company that people feel will be around for a long time. Gateway for a while was that way too.
Toyotas sell because people feel they are a highly reliable car and because of that people are willing to pay prices that aren't all that special.

People will pay thousands more for a Toyota over say a comparable GM because they believe the Toyota will need less repairs.
People will not pay hundreds more for a Dell over a comparable pc at a B&M.

Guess you haven't read up on the new Intel chips that work with Microsoft that locks down your PC and only allows Intel and Microsoft to make any changes to both hardware and software. The encoding is built into the chips. No way around it.
