Since 2010 Republicans have controlled most of government

State Legislatures, Congress, Governorships and maybe even stuff on the municipal level.

So why isn't everything pretty wonderful by now? Blame Obama for everything?

This election saw an extremely critical populace who literally felt America needed to be made great again. She had faltered the last 8 years, and not just a little, but a lot. Well the Republicans controlled most of it during that time.

How did they fail so miserably? And even more puzzling, maintain control in this election in addition with the Presidency. I thought the liberal media was in cahoots with Dems all across the board, how did they not regain back some control based upon those facts?

If America does reach whatever arbitrary point of greatness Trump deems (definition: probably wherever the economy is at after Trump's first year) and people point out the gradual upwards trend prior, you can be certain Republicans will claim credit for all improvements upon gaining the House in 2010.

They're going to pretend that the housing bubble & the financial crisis never happened so that they can do something like it all over again. It doesn't matter which way the economy moves because the guys at the top make money simply because it moves. The more it moves, the more they make.

Now that the election is over you're now saying the country isn't doing great?

I said the election saw an extremely critical populace who literally felt America had to be great again. In other words, she wasn't great, and in their fearless leader's words - we weren't winning, things were bad, terrible, etc...etc...

Don't you believe those people are stupid anyway?

I'd say the word to use is many were ignorant.

Now I am not denying there are issues in this country. There are plenty. Just examining the POV of a large part of the populace who was so convinced we were up shits creek without a paddle voted red when red has been in charge of the majority of the country for a sizable chunk of years.

Now that the GOP controls both the Congress and the White House, is it not a good time for it to shrink the government? Get rid of redundant agencies and regulations, for starters. Every election they harp on the EPA, Department of Education, Department of Health and Human Services, Consumer Finance Protection Bureau, National Labor Relations Board,.. the list goes on and on. Nothing stops them now, and the court will shortly join them to complete the trifecta. I want to see the GOP walk the walk for a change.

so it seems the lion in the room was Obama. He stopped all the progress of Congress and also managed to step in and stymie the progress of Governors and State Legislatures.

Amazing. That sounds dictatorial. Was Obama a dictator in your mind?

Harry fuckin Reid!

Right now the democratic party is the weakest it's been since the Great Depression era. Not much power in the party anymore, especially after the last general election. If Republicans can't get anything done now, they'll have noone to blame but themselves.

Here's where that old adage "with great power comes great responsibility" comes into play, where the burden of "Making America Great Again" is all on the Repubs (again). I can't wait for the Repubs to "Make America Great Again" by allowing their very wealthy benefactors to once (again) wring the economy dry with every get rich quick ploy they can possibly come up with (and get away with it again), destroy the economy (again) while they're at it, start a couple more wars to "stimulate the economy" and to keep themselves in power (again), get tossed out of office (again) and then have the Dems (again) pick up the pieces, fix things up all while the Repubs are blaming the Dems for not fixing things up fast enough so the process can repeat itself (again).

Well, the Repubs own it (again), so I'm eagerly anticipating how all of their failures and fuck-up's are going to be anybody's fault but theirs.........(again). 😀

We've done decently well from where we started 8 years ago even if the tax & regulatory structure favors the financial elite unfairly. Well, other than in places where Repubs hold sway entirely like Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi & so forth. Those folks are beating themselves with a rather large stick. I have confidence that our new political reality can extend the damage to more of us & beat them down even further.

Some people only learn the hard way & some not at all.

You need to check your 'sm meter.

In the other news, the first thing Trump wants to do in the office is to spend a cool trillion dollars. I will see how the congressional GOP members behave.

That infrastructure plan is a massive corporate welfare tax credit the last time I read about it. Also one where a private entity could build a road or bridge, and then collect toll revenue for example. However the toll system won't work on things like water and sewer infrastructure. And are we going to put tolls on very road and bridge now?

Other than the fact that Trump was the most disgusting person ever to appear on my TV set more than a decade ago and that his status for me hasn't changed as the disgusting pig that he is, we should look at his non-proposals objectively.

The national debt has soared because of the Bush Wars and the Tory Traitor Tea Party Congress' intransigence.

President-Elect F***stick is offering pie-in-the-sky. We must suddenly have a miraculous economic boom if he wants to spend $1 trillion on infrastructure and double the defense budget.

The miraculous economic boom is an ephemeral promise -- a prediction of a future from someone with a dim short-term view of a future.

Off the top of my hat, I could think he'll either break the bank, cause an inflationary spiral, or he'll have to raise taxes.

His predecessor elected in 2000 should've raised taxes to finance his Great Roman Empire Adventure in Iraq.

Why do you believe in political ideologies so much? What have you to gain from them?

Let the politicians do the politicking.

And on the "ground" level, it is up to me and you to live good and moral lives. Don't look up to the politicians to tell you how to live or what do think. Let go of Democrats and Republicans. Go out and live your life. Life is more than Democrats and Republicans, or Liberals or Conservatives.

The media loves people to focus on the narrow and ignore what is actual. That is why every story they show you is polarizing.

You can't discount the power of the executive. GOP doesn't always do what we put them in there for either. Just being Republicans isn't enough.

Wasn't there a thread a week or so ago about Trump inheriting the best economy since 1776 or something?

I posted this in a Breitbart comments thread and one guy responded twice with basically: Obama. and then Obama is a dictator.
