I have a good idea. I see out of state plates all the time.

Which part of the state are you in?

Two of my friends came to Texas from California. One quit his job to go to grad school and one lost his job and came here. I was talking to some people in Austin and there are lots of transplants from other state as well.

California is a sinking ship.

California still has quite a few more people so that is not surprising. However people are still moving to Texas in large numbers.

Actually california is 8th if it were a country, Texas would be 14th. According to 2006 data.

And California is 10th. There is a 6k difference between them.

The differences are not nearly as large as you make them out to be.

$42,325 for Kalifornia and $36,484 for Texas. So Texas has 14% +/- lower productivity per capita than Kalifornia.

Is this a result of the business friendly, ie anti worker atmosphere? Or is it a result of the lousy schools, bad infrastructure etc because of chronic low funding?

I am in San Antonio.
The transplants here could be different as there is a lot of military personal here and they move all the time, but this city is without a doubt growing like mad.

So if things are so bad here, why are people moving to Texas and moving out of the paradise called California. Texas is probably going to gain several house seats with next redistricting, while California will probably lose 1.

Because CA had an over-inflated population to begin with before both of the last two recessions, which CA got hit harder by than any other state because they led and fostered both booms, by a long-shot. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out.

because its the results from a database query or there would be 102 links...

http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/srgate
put all the Series Id in the box

data.bls.gov/PDQ/servlet/SurveyOutputServlet?series_id=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX&data_tool=XGtable
replace the Xs with the Series Id

As for 80% new jobs created statistics, it is misleading but he isn't exactly lying . The other 8 states with positive job growth are AK, NB, ND, OK, SD, UT, WA, WY and DC. Texas has ~55% of the jobs between these states and if you removed Washington state, which only added 500 jobs, then Texas has ~65% of the jobs.

In opinion, the percentage change is better measure. Texas has increases its private jobs by 5.5% over the last 5 years. This is second highest behind North Dakota, and compares to the US change of -3.5%
It used to be the 5th largest in the world...

My point was that for many years there has been this BS about how anti-business Kalifornia is. If it was so bad for so many years, how did it get where it is economically?

Texas has a greater proportion of low paying jobs. Is that where you aspire? If you do then by all means move to Texas.

As more and more ppl are pouring into TX, pays are going up too. I myself make a good bit more than what I made 3 years back.

Secondly, ppl coming from CA keep whining about taking pay cuts but in the inside they are more than happy to do it. Most of them cant get a decent house without paying an arm and leg for a 50 year mortgage for a house some 50 miles away from their work. You don't need a 150k job to live a decent live in TX.

IT is growing in Austin and Dallas, and has pretty competitive pay with the rest of the country.

With the amount of outsourcing happening its not a brilliant idea to keep paying high salaries so that a middle class person can buy a million dollar home. Where would a CA-ian rather like to see their jobs go? China/India or TX?

There is a misconception about TX being a ultra conservative state, Obama won from several counties. Its a very pro Hispanic immigrant state with a sanctuary city. It is at par with the rest of the nation when it comes to being gay and lesbian friendly.

Texas has done some things right.

They have used tax incentives to bring some large factories to the state.

They do a lot of international exporting from their shores.

They have very good regulation of the financial industry, especially real estate.

They also have a lot of energy related jobs (like offshore drilling in the gulf).

Although we have done better than most during the recession, these job creation numbers are heavily skewed because of the insane population growth we have experienced during this time. As has already been stated we are gaining population at the rate of 1000 per day and have been for some time, if you factor out the population growth I have a feeling job creation would be flat.

My new next door neighbors are from California, hell my wife is from California.

We're in western part of Houston.

Someone on this forum posted an interactive link a few months ago with major metropolitan areas showing where people are coming from and when they are going to.

Anyone still have it?

And california is likely to lose a house seat because its population growth is less relative to other states.

Its growth is still at or slightly above average for the last 10years compared the the US as a whole. Your link does not show anything differant. Not sure how you read that or read what you wanted to see.
If you and others had half a brain and did not read only right wing idiots like this and fox you would see weasle stats and words. He is comparing very small items in overall population. The FULL population of CA has been growing and still is.

I am not sure how it is above average population growth when there is real chance they will lose a seat in DC.

If you had any reading comprehension, you would understand what I am saying. I never said California population was shrinking. Maybe It is you that has 1/2 a brain.

You and others keep claiming that people are leaving in droves. Even your own right wing piece that is full of weasel words and stats say less than ½% has moved. Yet their, CA, overall population has still increased. They averaged a 1% increase from 08 to 09. 1% is higher than most and puts them right in the average range of increase.

But hey why let a little thing like facts mess with your weasel articles and perceptions.

You signature clearly shows how big of a douche you are. Then you have the awesome capability to block out the things from you mind that you don't like your brain to process. Its really a no-brainer that CA is going down. Its is not as prosperous as it used to be and gone are the days when ppl from all over the country would flock to CA. Now only the illegal immigrants who are driven out of AZ and other states are going there. Jobs are drying up. There are 4 ppl in my organization that have come from CA this year. CA is a failed state. It believes in building BIG even if its impractical, result? P-H-A-I-L, heres an example

AGAIN you and the other nuts keep saying CA is going down yet FACTS disagree.

Reality has a well-known liberal bias :D
