Simulate a 10" screen

I find myself traveling with a computer more and more and am leaning towards a netbook. I would be coming from a 15.6" laptop and am concerned with the screen size somewhat. Is there software that would allow me to simulate a 10" screen on my current setup to see if I could swing something that small?

All 10" netbooks have 1024 x 600 screens. Change the display resolution on your current laptop to the closest option to 1024 x 600, this will give you a decent estimate of what its like to work on a 10" screen.

In my opinion the 600 height is the limiting factor. Even 1024 by 768 is noticeably better than 600.

I had already changed my res but was looking for an emulator type program. I have used emulators in the past when trying out smart phones and they seem to give the best "hands on" experience. I was hoping for something similar. Thanks again

Not sure what you mean. Do what doan suggested, and turn scaling off on the monitor. That should letterbox the reduced resolution, and give you a good idea of what the display would look like.

Ahh perfect. Scaling is what I needed. Thanks

There's a few tricks for maximizing screen real estate on a netbook. Most of them relate to the web browser. Using small icons, turning off status bars, and hiding the taskbar all give more usable room.

A quickie would be to get a ruler handy. download irfanview. take a screenshot of the desktop. and then scale the picture to 10 inches. You can even try to mimic the resolution as well.
