So I don't think they lied, exactly; they're just being assholes.

No, I think they have actually lied.

On this thread, Maxoid_Hydra, an EA employee, said the following:

"Hey guys,
We can confirm that SecuROM will not be on the disc."

You know the Stuff packs they sell for Sims 2, well I think the Online shop is for that kinda stuff. Maybe they will still sell Stuff packs at retail.....But I don't think the Stuff packs ever sold well. I never bought any. I wanted more features. So the expansions were I what wanted.

So expansion packs will still give more features and items.

Now if they are just nice enough to allow 3rd party content.

So far the game is pretty fun.

What are some good places for custom content for Sims2?

For the record, my sister bought and installed the Sims 3 on her many years old Inspiron 6000 with no issues.

Not Securom, but a disk check designed by Securom:

It appears that this "non-Securom disk check designed by Securom" is causing headaches.

Moreover, it seems that customers are forced to use EA Download Manager to acquire game content that does not ship with the game and Securom could be installed in this manner (confirmation required).

Things are starting to point towards another DRM mess from EA.

Ah, I stand corrected, then.

Picked this up for my fiancee and she has been enjoying it. I'm curious about whether I can also install it on my computer without causing headaches. I don't plan on trying to play at the same time just curious about running it on my computer when she isn't running it on hers. Has anyone tried this and has it freaked out and called you a dirty pirate?

Add:

The second one has more critical fixes to keep your hood working... and many more sanity fixes.

The only stuffit pack worth getting is the last one, Mansion & Gardens as it's more of a mini-expansion rather than stuffit pack. It comes with it's own executable and some newer features.

lol I can't believe people are going along with this nickel and dime nonsense.

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/str.../news.html?sid=6208945

Players will be able to purchase additional SimPoints in denominations of 500-, 1,000-, and 2,000-point packages. According to EA, 1,000 SimPoints will cost $10, plus applicable tax.

http://store.thesims3.com/sets...oductId=OFB-SIM3:16998

Click the above link.. Seriously, are you fucking kidding me? $20 for a set of "in game" furniture.. and it just gets worse from there.

The sad part about this is that they'll get a bunch of suckers buying this DLC garbage, which basically amounts to game content that was intentionally left out of the game. I take my post from the previous page back. It looks like you'll be paying a lot more for this DLC then I first thought. EA has taken the DLC "microtransactions" concept, thrown the MS Live BS "points" concept into the mix, and then churned the two together to create the most despicable example of a video game I have ever seen in my life..

This is the same as the Stuff packs they sold for The Sims 2: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sims_2#Stuff_packs

Just now there sold in the online shop.

There will still be add-on packs to add more features and items.

Now 3rd party content is too early to tell....

I was reading their forums some. Some are just saying wait till the 1st expansion if they dont like how it is now. Which makes sense I suppose. Also users are starting to make things and putting them online to be used free so there is a supportive fan base modding community out there making things for other users although content is still lacking but that should change with time. I dont see the need to buy the things they are selling at their store but some might. Personal decision I guess.

Well, that's certainly one approach to DRM: remove game content and charge paying customers twice the price to acquire the complete game via a series of downloads.

I'm sure that nobody will feel upset about this extra cost as we can clearly all afford it and it will undoubtedly reduce piracy. Bear in mind that, whilst you may be purchasing one game for the price of two, the satisfaction of knowing that you are aiding EA to fight piracy will be yours to enjoy.

Well the disk based install doesn't go online for anything. The launcher loads a webpage when you start it up, but I don't think it does any sort of key verification, just simply loads a page using the IE renderer.

lol man. It just astounds me that people support this nonsense.

Chaotic, did you go to their forums and look for a solution? The other day I was looking though their forums and I thought I saw a thread there about how to fix that. Assuming its the same exact problem you are having with your game.

i have been reading diffrent forums about this. glad i havent purchased the game. sounds like w aste of money. i will wait until i can get it onsale or buy it used from someone. that is if 3rd party downlaods are ok

My problem is that the computer can't find Dasmx86Dll.dll. A lot of people are having the issue. It looks like the solution is to play the other city until a patch comes out.

I've always hated the Sim's AI, and I still do after playing this. How hard is it to eat something before you're starving? Sleep before you're about to pass out? Even with high free will mode on, they feel like retards that you have to guide around for the most basic tasks. That, and the time they require for specific actions is ridiculous. 30+ minutes to make breakfast? They either need to slow down the in-game clock or speed up most actions. There's no reason my sim should have to wake up 2 hours before his ride for work arrives (which also shows up an HOUR before work, which is a few blocks away) just to do simple things like showering and eating. Of course, I have to TELL the idiot to do it. Otherwise he gets unhappy because he's too dumb to figure the small things out on his own.

This is just starting the game. I'm terrified into thinking how ridiculous it will be to work with the more complicated aspects of the game. >.<

Perhaps I'm just missing something...I have no idea.

I could see 30 minutes to make a good breakfast. You're right in that some things take longer than they would in real life, but there's also a lot of things you don't have to do in the game that you would in real life.

lol! Yeah it depends on how well your Sims cooking skills are I think?

The game has pros and cons....Make sure to Register it to get the second town and such. Also some Best Buys have $10 Sim cards for $5.

This game doesn't feel any more bared that the Sims 1 with no expansions or The Sims 2.... To me the shop is the same as the Stuff packs and again Expansion packs will fill in most of the missing items and features.... I mean if Sims fans feel EA is screwing them, they will let them know.

As for people who are considering buying this game. I would say if you want it....Wait till 3rd party content comes available and some expansion packs come out.....So....Wait till some package special edition of The Sims 3 comes out with the game and an expansion pack with it.

If you're still enjoying Sims 2, then continue to enjoy it. There is allot of fun 3rd party stuff for it.

As for 3rd party content. I don't think EA is worried about it considering the people who use 3rd party would be considered advanced users......I know allot of people who don't know of 3rd party content. So I bet all those Stuff packs for The Sims 2 sold well and I'm sure the online shop will do well too. So they have nothing to fear with 3rd party content. I doubt they would be so stupid to block 3rd party content and lose the advanced users. Also allot of the kick ass third party content requires you to own certain expansion packs anyways......So it' not like EA will lose money....

Well, I bought the game today. Just now getting ready to install it. I've never played the Sims so I have nothing backwards to compare it to. As far as the Sims Store thing goes I dont plan on using it. I'll take advantage of what users make and share most likely assuming its something that interests me. And I'll make my own stuff probably as well if the notion strikes me. I also dont think EA worries about wether people are happy about lack of content or not. They know their expansion packs will sell. Sims 2 proved that. They also know the fan community is large and supportive enough to provide free what many will want/need.

One of the main reasons I chose to try Sims 3 was that I wanted to try my hand at machinima. So I'm eager to learn to see how well I do at making Sim videos. So this is also an experiment for me to see how well Sims 3 works for this and if I'll like it or not if it does work. The wife also expressed interest in trying Sims 3 so there is that added bonus to getting the game as well. My thinking is that if the game gives us 100 hours of entertainment it'll have been worth the investment. Thats just a number I came up with. I figure that if any game gives a buyer at least that much entertainment then its worth $50. Just my opinion anyway. So here goes...
