Well, I've seen or rather heard that the game is out on the Net already

I ran across a Blog/Article about it. Seems the Pirates were telling the Downloaders to disconnect from the Internet or to make sure their Firewall prevented the game from 'Phoning home'.

Now I'm not too crazy about all this Pirating of the game, but I am extremely pissed about their (EA) lies that this game would have no DRM.

After the Spore fiasco you would think they would get at least a hint of a clue.
The 'Phone home' was one of the biggest objections to what they were doing.

So, now they come out and say we're not doing DRM this time, and the B*******'s go and load it up with SecuROM and the same 'Phone Home' BS they had last time.

Yeah, so it's not calling home every x days, so what, it calls home. Period.

It's still doing the same sh*t they came out and made a big hoopla that they weren't going to do again.

EA, you have absolutely negative credibility, and even any hint of me purchasing this product (for my daughter) is now dead, burned, and buried.

Great PR :|

Yeah EA sucks  Worst company in existence.

Boohoo for pirates.

WTF? You know who has less credibility than EA? Filthy scumbag pirate bloggers. At least wait until the fucking game is released and see from legit sources whether or not this is true.

If was just one Site/Blog . . . but it's not.

Here's a couple besides the one that someone else posted earlier:

http://filenetworks.blogspot.c...s-3-drm-two-weeks.html

The game however does seem to call home (go online) to validate the serial at random intervals
I'm sorry, I really don't see a reason for a program that's only supposed to use a Serial # & disk check to behave this way.

There's a nice pic in this thread too:

http://www.insimenator.org/ind...p/topic,103575.30.html

There are others, but I'm not going to bother digging them up.

I may be offbase on the whole thing as you suggest, but the evidence I'm seeing is pointing otherwise.

Yes, specifically they're not for anyone who enjoys good gameplay

That's not true at all, really. Pirate bloggers have a lot more credibility than EA at this point.

Do you know what credibility even means?

TBH, I've got absolutely zero problem with EA making the game call home.

the sims games have been pirated to an insane degree and who doesn't have an internet connection nowadays?

My biggest issue is will it work if it cant phone home? Like most normal people, my windows firewall is set to automatically block programs until an exception has been added. I could see a lot of casual gamers not knowing why their sims 3 cant call home and thus cant play the game.

It works if you don't have internet. The pirated version calls for you to block it with windows firewall or the like in order for it to work. I didn't do this however and it worked fine for me.

To me, it feels kinda like it's just a modded Sims 2. It looks the same and feels the same, it just has a lot of options and things added to it.

Those screenshots make the game look much worse than it actually is. I'm running at 1680x1050 with everything maxed and it looks pretty good.

The pirated copy could be from a review copy and require phoning home for auth purposes. I guess we'll find out in a few weeks if this is included on the retail discs or not. For now i'm not going to jump to conclusions, although I can absolutely see EA saying one thing and then doing another.

I'm liking a lot of the new features (journalism career is interesting, digging through your neighbors trash and writing negative stories on them ftw), the way the neighborhoods work now is neat (though I wish it came with more than one), graphics are pretty decent with all settings turned to max, item customization is nice, and I can't say that there's anything from Sims 2 that I particularly miss.

DL'd the cracked version, but I'm planning on buying it retail when it comes out in 2 weeks.

I went thief profession and my brother went scientist. With maxed out scientist, you can modify most of the stuff in your house to give out aoe buffs for mood and such, while for thieving you randomly, and quite often, bring home random decorative pictures/statues for your house. I've gotten quite a few of the $7500 painting, most expensive, for free with this.

You mean boohoo for paying consumers? The pirates just break the DRM and go their merry way; it's the paying consumers that tend to get caught in the shit that DRM creates.

The scientist route definitely has its perks.

that's pretty neat.

seems like you can use journalism to boost/lower your rep with people by writing positive or negative stories about them; haven't found any benefits to being a musician yet, although my son the hacker brings in some cash 🙂

Downloaded it...

It plays/looks like Sims1...Even on my 260GTX, 22" 2209WAF dual monitors....Maybe SOME minor tweaks...but I was hoping it'd look better by now.

I'll probably play for a few hours, then kill them off and uninstall.

I mean, with the degree of customization involved it's never going to look like a super sleek console game, but with all settings turned to max I think that it looks noticeably better than Sims 2, which itself was miles ahead of Sims 1.

Stop being a douchebag. It's good gameplay to some people. There's things you like that people would call you tasteless for.

I also like how there's so much subtly admitted piracy in this thread, yet it's not locked nor has anybody gotten a banstick yet. WTG mods.

I don't believe I was ever subtle about it.

not like anyone's giving links on where to get it or anything.

I for one have every intention of buying the full retail version when it's released in June.

The mods have said time and time again that admitting to piracy is grounds for a vacation.

Edit: Hey, my first timewarp.

Use custom content with Sims 2 and you'll disagree.

Okay, here are pics of my house/sim, probably 15-20 hours played, $200 000 networth, I'm really truly done with the game now. Btw, painting pictures is pretty solid cash.
Outside
Inside

Had to play with the brightness a bit so its slightly off. I got most of the skills to 10/10, making like 1300/hr and got more money than I need so since its a singleplayer game it got kinda boring. They need to take this online like second life, then you'd be cookin.

My lil brother made a big house that's way more impressive, he was more into the designing aspect I guess, while I was min/maxing cash and skills basically. I think he's kinda burning out on the game too though.

One of the things that bothered me right off the bat was how I couldn't create my own house, I had to buy one of the existing homes. I wanted to create a new lot and start my home from scratch.

Also, when I'm done with my guy being single and his career, I'd like to try the family thing at least for a little while, but I don't want to lose my original guy. I don't think there's a way to keep just him from aging.

One thing I like about the new game though is that there is no minimum friends requirement to move up in your career like in Sims 2, which was really annoying when you needed to maintain 15 friends or something to get promoted.

Not sure if your talking about Sims 3 or 2... In Sims 3 after moving out you can buy an empty lot and build a house from scratch. Also, right in the game options you can set aging to various speeds or disable it completely.
