I've always had fun with the Sims games. There are some who bash it, but it's not for everyone.

It doesn't look too much better graphics-wise than Sims 2 so hopefully it's not too demanding. That would be a big mistake on EA's part.

One of the things I'm looking forward to the most with this game is the extra customization for items like furniture. That was something that I didn't like about the previous Sims. It was hard finding things that matched. Sounds trivial, I know, but I'm looking forward to this extra freedom. The neighbourhood aspect I could pass on, as well as being able to make my character a mooch or other things that would be annoying to deal with.

Yeah, this is something my daughter will probably want.

I think this is supposed to be DRM free, so I'll probably end up getting it for her.

The trick with the Sims is the continuing waterfall of expansions. While a few have some major addition to the game play, most are very simple, stuff that could be done in the editor by anyone. If you check out the Sims mod sites, the fans often do a much better job actually. At $30 a pop, these are gold mines.

How many ways are there to torture my sims? Can I force them into 1x1 closets in the nude until they soil themselves?

I've never been interested in Sims or Sims2 but this 3rd version looks somewhat interesting.

I liked the first two but never got into any of the expansions or anything. Probably will get this since it seems like it won't be DRMed up like Spore was.

Sooooooo.......
Will I be able to dress up the chicks like little whores?
Do they have Vegas dressing rooms available?
Maybe I'd like to make "Showgirls" on my computer.

Ugh more Spore all over again...

That guy complains a lot for someone who admits to having not really played it yet (too busy configuring it). Sims 3 Screenie Here's a pic I just took, came out really dark compared to in game for some reason, but gives you an idea of the graphics with high settings. It's a good game, but ~14 hours in now and kinda bored.

Well considering he's fixed a lot of the bugs that EA won't fix or even acknowledge.

edit: The ground/wall textures look nice, it's just all the sims and the annoyances that are a major turn off.

Double edit: LOL Turn ons/off were a part of Sims 2 Nightlife LOL

How are these people playing the game already? Looks absolutely awful from those screenshots. I've never been a fan of The Sims but there's no way those screenies would convert me.

Hmm... how to put this my "friend" (whose played the Sims since its conception) has the game, and he says it feels like a glossed over Sims 2 with just enough minor changes to call it a new game.

Its pretty similar to Sims 1 so I imagine his statement is correct.

Well, I've seen or rather heard that the game is out on the Net already

I ran across a Blog/Article about it. Seems the Pirates were telling the Downloaders to disconnect from the Internet or to make sure their Firewall prevented the game from 'Phoning home'.

Now I'm not too crazy about all this Pirating of the game, but I am extremely pissed about their (EA) lies that this game would have no DRM.

After the Spore fiasco you would think they would get at least a hint of a clue.
The 'Phone home' was one of the biggest objections to what they were doing.

So, now they come out and say we're not doing DRM this time, and the B*******'s go and load it up with SecuROM and the same 'Phone Home' BS they had last time.

Yeah, so it's not calling home every x days, so what, it calls home. Period.

It's still doing the same sh*t they came out and made a big hoopla that they weren't going to do again.

EA, you have absolutely negative credibility, and even any hint of me purchasing this product (for my daughter) is now dead, burned, and buried.

Great PR :|

Everything I've read on legit sites only detail a disk based check. I wouldn't believe blogs until the game is officially released as the warez version could be a pre-release version that phones home.

no more rosebud?!?!

there probably is, the cheat console is there.

from the readme...

Cheats
------

To enter cheats in the game, first open the command console by
simultaneously pressing Ctrl-Shift-C. Press the enter button
or Escape to close the command console. Some of the cheats that
can be used here are as follows:

help: Lists all the cheats currently available.
help <cheatname>: Displays specific information about the cheat.
quit: Exits the game.
[up arrow]: Recalls the most recent cheat typed into this window
for this instance of the game.

resetSim <full Sim name>: In the rare case that a Sim gets "stuck"
in an interaction or somewhere around town or gets something
stuck to it, use this cheat. It may take a while for the Sim
to appear because it is being entirely rebuilt.
Usage example: resetSim Mortimer Goth

fps [on|off]: Turns the frame rate display in the upper
right corner on or off.

moveObjects [on|off]: Removes footprint limitation for all object
placement in Buy Mode and Build Mode. Removes limitations placed
on hand tool for when objects are in use or for objects that
normally are not movable. Is known to cause issues with game
elements, routing, hidden object generation and manipulation,
etc. Note that using this cheat allows you to move and delete
objects that normally cannot be manipulated such as Sims.
If you delete these objects, there is no way to get
them back, so be careful!

constrainFloorElevation [true|false]: Allows all terrain adjustments
regardless of objects, Sims, and other structures on them.
Walls, floors, and objects will move with the terrain,
allowing you to create sloped walls and floored hills.
However, placing new walls/floors will still flatten
terrain, and placing objects will still require the terrain
to be flat initially if the objects normally require it.

disableSnappingToSlotsOnAlt [on|off]: When on, objects will
not snap to slots while holding ALT. Useful for placing
objects such as chairs near tables without them snapping
or placing counters near other counters, etc.

hideHeadlineEffects [on|off]: Hides all Sim overhead effects
such as thought balloons and speech balloons.

fadeObjects [on|off]: Toggles whether objects fade when the
camera gets close to them. Does not apply to Sims.

slowMotionViz <level>: Puts the visuals of the game in slow motion.
Entering a "level" value is optional. Valid values range from
0 = normal speed to 8 = slowest.

unlockOutfits [on|off]: Includes career outfits and service Sim outfits
as options in Create a Sim. The cheat must be entered before
going into CAS.

Also possibly the digital download version.

Also consider custom content can make sims 2 look lovely... There is no custom content in sims 3, and what will be, be very limited

No CC = short lived game.

WTF? You know who has less credibility than EA? Filthy scumbag pirate bloggers. At least wait until the fucking game is released and see from legit sources whether or not this is true.
