I am just wondering what video card i will need to play Sims 2 on full setings smooth. Will be run of a 939 3200+ core with 1gb of random on a 17inch CRT. Is a 6600GT over kill or just right?

I wouldn't say overkill but more like if your only buuying it for Sims 2 I wouldn't spend anymore money because a 6600GT would play it jsut right.

Great i will give the 6600GT a shot. I had though my brother would be playing FEAR BF2 and EQ2 on this new computer so i bought eVGA 256-P2-N518 Geforce 7800GT
ShadowBlade will 1 GB of OCZ value do it?

its realy my mom's new computer so i think see will be playing SIM 2 for a long time unless Sims 3 is coming out soon thats pritty much all she plays

I have a 6600GT and it runs it fine with a Opteron 165 on low settings. I too use a 17" panasonic CRT.

Radeon 9600 and above, Radeon X and Xk class and higher

Geforce 5600 and above, Geforce 6 and 7 series and higher

sims 2 is not demanding at all. I have a 9800xt(slightly slower than a 6600gt) and I play at 1152x864 max smooth edges(aa) max everything else fine.

its run on a 9000pro and 7200 here just fine. that being said a gt would do well for the AA and higher resolutions. otherwise its not exactly stressful videocard wise

For Sims 1, sure. Sims 2 would look like crap on a 440MX, though.

wasnt all that bad. I played it on a geforce2 ti and it pl;ayed fine. 1024x768, medium, no smooth edges, no reflections.

My mom's computer has a ti4600, 512mb ram and p3 933, and she runs the sims2 great at 1024x768 with max details (less the AA/AF)

and plenty of RAM
Don?t forget a fast HDD, sim2 is one of the most disk demanding game out there.

that too
lol, i remember trying to play it on my Dell 2400 (5400RPM HD) with 256MB RAM
took about 10 mins to load a house

wielp i got a 7800GT so i gess its a bit over kill but realy all and all the diffrence between the computer with a 7800GT and a 6600GT is about $120 dollars. I ran i past my mom and she though i was trying to short changing her. why not much diffrence mostly b/c i got that Evga combo deal with the motherboard and Quake 4 so thats about $120 right there a 6600gt is what $120 so thats $240 - $ 360 =$ 120 i gess if i did it over agin i would have bought the 6600GT and got her a 3800X2 or just saved the money. I gess i over killed it tuff call. Thanks for all your input nexted time i build a computer i run it past you all i did that for mine but i gess i got cocky o will if i keep the 7800GT and my bro plays BF2 and EQ2 with me on it then its probly worth the extra 120 we will have a family sit down. thaks for showing me my options
