Sims 2 worth getting?

I used to have the sims for PS2, it was a good game, I enjoyed it while I had it, but it did get old after a while. I am wondeirng if it might be better for the pc sionce I can add the EP's to it to keep the fun going for a while. Anybody have it, what do you think of it?

Now I must also figure out if my machines can handle it. I have multiple PC's to choose from, but my video options are lacking. I have a laptop with a 1.86 Pentium M, but it has intel extreme integrated graphics, so thats probablly not gonna cut it. My main rig is an X2 3800+ but its only working with the onboard video from the nvidia 6150 motherboard. Again that may not be enoug to cut it. I have my file server with a sempron 3100+ but its using an old radeon 8500DV AIW. And lastly, I ahve an Athlon XP 2100+ system with a geforce 6600GT, that video car dmay work, but not sure if the system itself is up to the task. It only has 512MB ram, the rest of my systems all have 1GB.

I ran Sims 2 on an Athlon XP 2200 system with 512MB of RAM - it ran fine so your 6600GT system should be ok

Thats what i figured, hmm now I will have to find a way to utilize that system. I figured either that system or the file server with the addition of the 6600GT would be my best bets. Unfortunately neither of those has a keybaord or mouse setup for it. I run the file server remotely through my main rig. And the AXP machine is a ghetto HTPC that i generally just use the remote with.

Although the AXP rig is hooke dup to my front projector, so i would have a nice 5' screen to play on.

I just re-installed Sims 2 yesterday. I added a 6600GT to my everyday PC and figured I'd try and play it again. Played for about 4 hours yesterday.

I've played the PS2 version also and got bored with it. The two versions are pretty different.

my son plays it on an x2 3800 with an x300se, 1 gig ram. i'll have to check what settings but i think its 10x7 with almost all max. i know one setting is on medium. the x300 is basically onboard so you maybe ok.

the cpu plays a large role in sims2. the game won't even start if i leave any dc projects on in the background.

before, he played it on a p4 2.4c with a 5900xt and it was much worse than his current rig/settings.

i'll update his settings for you later.

I play it with a 9600XT with everything maxed out at 1024x768 and runs perfectly (AMD athlon 3200+ with 1 gig of RAM, but it also ran perfectly with 512).

IT's very addictive. It took me a bit to get into it because at first it seemed just like a rehashed version of Sims 1, but after a while it really grew on me. I also recomend the Nightlife expansion if you like the game,

I played the first one, and I never saw a need to buy any expansion packs with all the user created content that could be downloaded.

just like the first one, it's fun for a few days depending on how long per session you play it for, then it just gets boring and you try to think of fun ways to kill people and/or build fun houses.

Exactly

Cool guys, I bought it and it runs okay on my main rig, not sure of the settings exactly. As for the expansions, should they be purchased one at a time and played till you get board, then get the next, or should I get them all at once and play through it like that?
