Sims 2 running slowly after installing expansions.

My machine is made up of an AMD X2 3800+, 1GB PC3200, 36GB WD Raptor, Asus A8N VM-CSM, using onboard video. I know the video is low end, but it was running the game itself okay, with the occasional slideshow during heavy moments. But after installing all 3 expansions for it, it now runs like crap all the time. The only thing is it seems to be constantly writing to the hard drive. So is it not enough memory, is the video card the issue, bot things causing the problem, or something else entirely.
