Are you sure about that being a 5x burner? Thats an odd speed for optical storage. One thing you could to is make an ISO image and mount the image using a virtual drive. Then it'll be as fast as the HD.

hmm it reads the cd but a strange error. E:\setup.exe is not a valid win32 aplication.

anyone know wha tthis is?

yeah thats what i thought. BUT the case (came out of a OLD Emachine i had) said 5x DVD rom.

Good luck, especially if you are not running Windows XP.

EA has still not been able to get the game running on my box after 2 weeks. I installed the game fine, but when I load up the game, it crashes and Windows reports my DVD-rom drive has been ejected from my system.

They told me I need to exit every program except for explorer.exe. I am supposed to exit out of my anti-virus software, disconnect from the internet, and shut down all kinds of services, just to play the game.

It still doesn't work.

The Sims 2 is the worst coded game, no, worst coded software, I have ever seen in my entire life.

My copy is being returned for a full refund. And I will NEVER buy another EA game again.
Their tech support is horrible, and I will not buy a game that asks for me to deactivate my AV just to play.

Yet another thread where you're bitching because the Sims 2 won't run on your W2K box. Shut it already, return the game to the store and go away. The game works just fine on countless other people's machines, mine included. EA doesn't need your money. You will not be missed.

are you a gamer ? You'll need an updated DVDROM sometime ... may as well be now...

yeah i just really didnt want to spend the $20 on a 16x dvd rom. maybe i can find a used on eheh

yea this is a normal problem. i had this problem with the UT2K4 dvd in my old 10x DVD ROM. I had to go pick up a new drive and then it worked fine. I don't think it has anything to do with speed. it was explained to me that many new game dvds have data printed in a certain way or certain region of the DVD that old drives can't access.
